TFOG and I had dinner with my folks this evening, as they were in town for a night.

When with my parents, TFOG always waits for the moment my mother will do/say something that pisses her off. Tonight it came with my mother "reminding me" that I (we) owed her money for another meal we'd had out a month or two back. We'd had a weekend in my folks' town and agreed to drive them back to Sydney and stop along the way for a country lunch they'd wanted to try for a while. I would drive and not drink any wine at the lunch.

On the day, TFOG had wanted us to pay for the meal but we were told not to. So I wasn't expecting to be told that we owed money for it. I'd forgotten the details, and anyway I'd been willing to pay for tonight's meal. But TFOG was incensed, although she didn't show it until later.

In-laws, eh?

Mine are the bomb...if I'd had parents as cool as my wife's folks when I was growing up, I might not have turned out such a fucking mess!! Ha!!!

Hee hee...I've not had any contact with my parents for well over 10 years now and I think my wife is kinda glad...my war stories probably make them sound worse than a night with the Bush family.

To return to an older conversation, I would not describe myself as being cynical about love in general. Just less than confident about my ability to recognize and nurture it in my own life and too focused on other things to spend time trying to work it out right now. In short, disinterested.

Apparently these men also think of themselves as being disinterested.

Ya know, I'm not a big fan of Steve Vai, but I've always respected what he does. He has a better sense of humor than your run-of-the-mill shredder, for one thing. Maybe that comes from playing with Zappa.

Come to think of it, I should pick up more of his stuff....
