It's been two weeks since I started my seasonal position and I've already gotten some terrific experience. Several gnarly fires, and plenty of medical aids. Schedule B is completely different from what I've done in the past with my volunteer work. We train harder, we're more disciplined with just about everything, and wildland fires are a totally different animal than a structure fire.
The first two were excellent starters for me. Both were textbook grass fires on relatively level ground. I got a chance to work out the kinks and get a handle on everything I have to be responsible for.
The next was a ripper. Arson in the hillls behind Pine Flat Reservoir. Super steep terrain with heavy brush and poison oak everywhere. I hiked my arse off but we got it contained after about 12 hours. The arsonist was also apparently caught on his way out, too, which is extremely satisfying.
After a week of training, i'm going to be reassigned. Apparently, they're going to put me on Ladder 87, which is a HUGE priviledge. A certain city department already told me I was too short to work on their ladders, but I still get to do it! HA! Suck it, Clovis!
On the subject of hiking:
I'm no stranger to the mountains, and taking long trails through the wilderness. With Yosemite so close, I can't resist the urge to take to the mountains. I AM used to doing it with running shoes and light gear, though. These boots I've had to purchase are KILLING my ankles. They're incredibly well built, but they're also muy difficulto to break in. I think it's going to be faster for my feet to reshape themselves to the boots than the other way 'round. My feet and ankles are bruised, swollen, and tender to the touch. Ai, papi, no mi gusta! Here's hoping they heal up a bit during my next day off.

.... And that's how I fell in love with Hilary Swank.
If you haven't seen it, rectify.

There's a list of things I won't do, and it's gradually becoming smaller. Posing nude is one of the items that is in danger of falling off the list.
Here's the breakdown. I'm a vain person. I really am. I'd like to think that I'm not so vain that it overrides any GOOD qualities I may possess, or that it tips me on the scale into the realm of being a BAD person.
That being said, there's something about looking good that makes you FEEL good. Confident, vibrant, ALIVE somehow. I've no doubt that the SG's all feel this to some degree. It's addicting. I know what it means to feel attractive. And I dig it.
And so, I did this:

I'm still debating just setting up a SB set. It's a line I might not cross, just yet. We'll see. If this stuff offends, forgiveness please.

Today I heard that Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock" was all about anal rape of the prison variety. I haven't really had time to research it, yet, but it makes ALOT of sense.
Seriously.
That crazy bloated King.

I fixed the janky commode with an even jankier solution. Paper clip flush chains are all the rage. I like to think that I just made the world a better place to be. But then I like to think a lot of things, not all necessarily true.
Today I'd like to think that I can be productive, and accomplish everything that needs doing with a minimum of time wasted. We'll see if optimism can make it happen.

I have more pictures of myself then I do of any of my friends and loved ones. FAR more. Time for a priority check.
Yesterday we responded to a natural gas leak and it was fairly exciting....for the first 3 hours. We pulled up and witnessed the enormous plume of gas coming from a broken pipe below streetlevel. After CHP was called to shut down Golden State, and prevent the trains from crossing through the cloud, we packed up, pulled a line, and stood by incase of ignition.
Then we stood by some more.
After 8 hours of waiting and watching, the PG & E guys succeded in capping the leak without incident. And as we put all the gear back into place, we decided it was a good thing. Later on, I realized that even though I didn't get any excitement, no one was hurt, either. I can live with that.

Update:
I did what I set out to do. It was classy. And I met some delightful new friends! But I have no pics to show. Maybe later. But rest assured. I achieved DASHING-ness. = P
Game updates:
The newest Zelda is AMAZING. I can't compare, since I missed all the Zeldas between the first and this, but I know that I'm going to buy Windwaker. My precious GameCube saw little use over the last year, mostly due to my torrid affair with a 360, and my lack of free time. But she's still proving to be a wonderful bit of hardware. As far as the story, it's terrific. Very involving, but simple enough. Comparing it to Final Fantasy is like contrasting the Hobbit and the LOTR Trilogy. Good, clean, simple adventure. And I get a tremendous kick out of playing as a wolf. All my biting tendancies finally have an outlet. Well, biting and scratching tendancies. And howling. MOVING ON!
I've been playing Lost in Blue for the DS. It's kind of addicting, though it's got that repetitive-quality that means I can only handle an hour or so at a time. The premise is this: You've been shipwrecked on an island, and must forage and gather food, learn to build fire, and develop weapons and tools. EXCELLENT! But you also have to keep your stomach full and your strength up, and that proves to be a constant task. The first few weeks in-game are basically walking about stuffing everything you find into your mouth.
You can't explore because you'd starve to death walking much farther than your cave. Annoying. Then, too, you must care for a girl who's washed up farther down the beach. And she's the worst kind of ward. COMPLETELY incapable. You have to take her to the river to drink, or she'll let herself get all dehydrated. Honestly. Selfpreservation would've been a nice feature, developers! Still, it's teh fun. I enjoy, muchly.
Work is slowing down. Sears has cut my hours again, and I find myself with more free time. Though I have to begin recertifying in EMT and CPR. For goodness sake. Two years has flown by. I ought to start schooling again, too. Actually get a degree now that I have a focus. But I"ve been out for so long. I don't wanna!
As far as debt, I'm slowly digging myself out. It's going to eventually be completely gone. That'll feel nice.
I'll sleep for two days to celebrate. Reward effort with the ability to be lazy. Word.
