OK, so it looks like I'll finally be able to move into my groovy, little house in about 3 weeks (the weekend of my birthday, YAY ! ). I'll be living there about a week before the Festival International de Louisiane starts (my favorite time of the year biggrin ).

I can't wait to move-in. There are 2 things I'm looking forward to doing in my little house that I don't feel comfortable doing here (I'm staying with family until my house is ready for habitation). Actually, there are LOTS of things I'm looking forward to doing but anyway. The first is to REALLY take the time to learn to play the Bass. I've owned a bass for a couple of years, but now I'm ready to commit myself to practicing and enjoying it immensely. I love the sound of a bass SO much; I just can't wait until I can make it sing. I'm an absolute beginner, so that may take awhile.

The second thing I'm looking forward to doing is brewing my own beer. I've tried it a couple of times to disastrous effects. I like the challenge and the art of making REALLY good beer. Again, I'm an absolute beginner, so this too may take a while to master. It would be SO cool to open my own little micro-brewery someday. I guess it's kind of ironic though, because I spend all day counseling people who are alcoholics and drug-addicted. Yet another of my wonderful quirks. blush

Oh my GOD!!! I just bought this house:

What the hell am I thinking?? I never bought a house before. Man, there are a lot of things to do. It ain't like goin' to the store to buy groceries that's for sure. I have to get it inspected, appraised, LOTS of loan papers, and I have to move all my stuff!! Again, what the hell was I thinking?

I'll keep everyone updated as things progress.

Woo Hoo!!! It's festival weekend here all over Louisiana. biggrin

In New Orleans, there's The Jazz and Heritage Festival. I won't be in attendance due to my current state of poverty and lack of a place in the City to stay.

However, here in Lafayette it's Festival International de Louisiane, a festival of music from the French-speaking countries around the world. In my humble opinion, this festival is better than Jazz Fest anyway. Smaller crowds and MUCH better music. (I know that's hard to believe, but it's true.)

MAN, this is why I LOVE south Louisiana!! Hurricanes be DAMNED!!!!

Well I'm off to drink beer and shake my ass in the streets!!

Later, y'all!!!

Well, it's been awhile since I've updated. Let's see. Since I was here last, I found a new job that I think I'm going to like, although I'm not completely sure yet. I'm working as a therapist at a community agency, but I'm working mainly with people who really don't want therapy, so that makes my job a challenge to say the least.

I'm finally feeling "at home" again in Louisiana. It took living ALL over the country to finally realize "home" has always been Home. I'm still living in my old childhood bedroom. I moved back to Louisiana just 2 days before the Hurricane hit. Thousands of people from New Orleans have rented all of the available housing here in Lafayette, so I'm stuck here until some rental units open up. That could be awhile. frown

Ever since I was little we've celebrated Christmas on the night of December 24th. So I thought it was time I finally traveled to New Orleans to see the destruction for myself and take some pictures. I'm still in a state of shock because of what I experienced. New Orleans is my "spiritual home," but it's spirit is gravely wounded.

All of my old haunts are still closed or were washed away altogether. The soul of the city is not there anymore but I pray it will comeback soon. The majority of people in the city are construction workers and clean-up people. These people aren't New Orleans. There are none of the quirky, decadent, laid-back, musician, Creole, artsy, wonderful people that makes the City so unique. I'm SO sad right now for the most special, unique city in the world.

I posted more pictures in my Pics Folder.

Aside from all of the devistation I witnessed yesterday, I'm still humbled that I have a roof over my head and that none of my family or friends were hurt by the storms.

All-in-all the holidays were a good time of the year that I got to spend with family and friends

I hope everyone had a great Holiday and has a wonderful New Year!!
