It can't be more than 50 degrees in my bedroom and I'm covered in sweat. The windows are propped open, the white muslin curtains dancing with the wind. I'm decimated. My breathing is slowly returning to normal.
She lies next to me smoking. The drugstore sign outside my window bathes her naked body in a red neon glow. I can't believe we did that, I say. Her curly brown hair is damp and straighter than I am used to it. Her perfect little hand snubs her cigarette out in the lit candle by the side of my bed.
Life is a just a big long complete bore, she says, until somthing terrible happens to you.
I get up and head to the bathroom.
