So my dad has thyroid cancer. It's extremely treatable (this kind of thyroid cancer, anyway) and they caught it early. Surgery will happen in a couple weeks.

He's survived cancer before...prostate cancer 10 years ago. Then, as now, it was the best variety of bad news: caught early, slow growing cancer, good odds. And yeah, it turned out relatively okay, as far as that goes. "Full" recovery. Same prognosis here...medicated to regulate thyroid for the rest of his life, but...people live with that.

So...why does it all feel so morbid and scary? I guess as well as things turn out now, we all have a finite number of days. One day, the news won't be so good.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful. I truly know things could be a lot worse.

But I also know that someday they will be.

It's okay to be a bit existential every now and then. It's been a couple months since this was posted, so I'm hoping things are going well kiss
