If you are one of my tweetpeeps and you are reading this you will know how important my charities are to me, after all they are the first on my follow friday list every week, but some charities I support in other ways too, financial ways, and Make-A-Wish is one such charity, and in this blog I am going to tell you why and why this weekend, if you can, I would like you to dig out a quid for a Wish too, please continue to read I beg you.
Let me get one thing straight, I am not writing this blog so you can hold a parade in my honor for my donations, nor for popularity or any of that cr..., er, erm,...stuff! And yes although I am going to ask if you could please donate 50 pence or a quid or 2, to please do, a prayer and a wish for a wish kid would also do just as nicely because if you wish for their wish to come true, double the wish, double the chances it will.
So brief history, it starts with a simple wish of a young boy named Chris Greicius, who all is young life had dreamed one day to be a police man, Chris was diagnosed with Leukemia and in 1980 with the help of a U.S. customs officer Tommy Austin who had befriended Chris and his mum, on the 29th of April 7 year old Chris’ wish came true, he was sworn in as the first honorary officer of the Arizona DPS (Department of Public Safety) in state history, he had is own official uniform and everything.
On May the 3rd sadly Chris passed away but not before giving some of the most joyful smiles you ever would see at his wish coming true, and thus Make-A-Wish was born. There is so much more to Chris’s story and you can, and should, read it right here.

Since Chris’s wish, the wish that started it all Make-A-Wish has grown so huge and has expanded across the globe, it is one of, if not the, largest wish granting organizations in the world and has made over 300,000 wishes come true for children with life threatening illnesses bringing them and their families a joy they thought they would never feel, in times of great pain and worry and sadness.
So why do I support Make-A-Wish? Why do I give them money each month?
I don't have a family, I don't have children, I wish I did, but I don't, but I know a couple of things.
The first thing I know is this, Life threatening illnesses are indiscriminate and can and do affect anyone at anytime, even those who may never so much as sneeze, this means you and yours and me and mine, should I ever be so fortunate to have a family, and these illnesses are cruel and cause the most emotional pain to these children and their families, but these are the children I see still smiling the most and trying to just live to the fullest! Harry Mosely and Jack Marshall point in fact look at what they did for us and how Harry still continues to Help others even though he is no longer with us! ok Granted not wishkids as far as I am aware but still amazing examples of the kinds of inspiring these kids are.
The second thing I know is that I have had 37 years to live and a fair few wishes granted, when I was a kid I got to be in the Cubs instead of the boys brigade, I met Sqdn Leader Tim Miller of the Red Arrows for my 13th birthday and got my picture taken in a Red Arrows Hawk Jet (sadly lost the pics but the memory is there.), I wanted a Bicycle ( we were poor) I got one, and recently I published my ebook something I always wished to do, have a book, its kinda crappy but it’s mine, and so many other simple wishes I got them all and the smile I gave was one even I would never forget.
Perspective here, compare that to the amount of wishes Chris had come true, had enough time to come true. Exactly! These kids may only ever have 1 wish and 1 wish come true their whole lives, because they may not live long enough to make more and have more come true.
Tell me how many simple wishes have you had and had come true and still have a chance to come true? I know that even though I don’t give much each month, I’m at least helping to make 1 child's wish come true, how ever small the donation it is still a huge help to bringing a huge smile the like of which would make angels sing and cry tears of joy.
So I am going to keep it simple now, Monday the 29th of April 2013 is world wish day, the anniversary of the first wish, Chris’s wish, and if all of my tweetpeeps and readers could donate just a pound to Make-A-Wish I would really appreciate it, every little means a lot and helps.
