Ok, so I have never written one of these so bear with me. This is really just me venting due to some issues with my life, and as much as I would love to post this on FB, I do not wish to deal with the bullshit that could follow.
For the past year I have been living in a house that my sister used to live in and her father-in-law owns, and it has been hell ever since I moved in. They feel that since I am family I should let them slide on certain things that are against Landlord/Tenant law. Yet, when it is the 2nd of the month, no matter what day it has fallen on, I get hounded by both my sister and her father-in-law about the rent.
At one point I had a dead rat in my walls, after 3 weeks of dealing with the smell; it became bad enough to where I could not sleep and slept in my car a couple times. It was not until I got to that stage and I threatened to call an exterminator did they finally do something, still took them another week.
I have a dishwasher that the only way I can get running is to bang on the front until it starts up, when brought up to them they said “deal with it or don’t use it”. No offer to have a tech look at it or anything.
A couple months ago I noticed the deck’s railing looked like it was rotten, I brought it up to them, only to have my brother-in-law and his dad(the landlord) break half of the railing down, leaving a mess of rotten and nasty wood and them telling me to “clean it up”. I asked if they were going to fix it, they looked at me and said “why should we?” So now I have a deck with a 2 foot drop (ya I know it’s not far) with no railing.
About June 13th I woke to a cold house. Upon inspection I realized my heat pump was not working. I contacted the landlord and informed him of the situation. He told me to call my sister since she is the “secretary & manager”. Really? I never was told this before. So I call her and she say she will have her husband stop by sometime to look at it (he works in a warehouse...

A week later he finally comes over and checks it out and says, “I dunno, I think we need to call someone.” No shit! I could have done that! So the next day(fastest they have ever moved) someone comes out and informs the landlord that the whole unit is dead and needs replacing. Well thankfully it is summer time because to this day it still isn’t fixed.
The final straw was this, as I had company over, my sister decides to show up and starts bitching me out due to the sides and yard needs mowing and trimming before the homeowners associations fines them. As part of my rent, the yard-work is to be done by the landlord, and he has kept his part of that verbal deal (we never had a written rental contract). Now all of a sudden it’s my job. I don’t think so, I am doing being stepped on by my sister who I thought would have been some who have treated me with respect.
My advise, don’t ever rent from family, they will walk all over you.
