It's is inspiring to think of the power that we have at our disposal. though most of people ever realize it. Liberation is the key to realizing this power. Only once I knew liberation was I able to look at the problems that I had in love, and see that only now do I truly know love. The mind attempts to make all sorts of problems out of it, but despite how complicated it may seem, it is really very simple. As long as you are enslaved by your idea of love, that you need it to make you better, you do not realize that nothing can ever make you any better or worse than you already are. If you cannot realize this about yourself, then you cannot realize it about anyone else, and thus knowledge of love is beyond your reach (only because you do not yet know that it really is within your reach). When you identify yourself with your mind, everything is seen as a problem on a conscious or unconscious level because the mind is a problem solving machine, and if there are no problems it cannot solve them. In other words, it would die. This is the basis for all resistance, all attachment, and consequently, all suffering.
Today I thought of someone that I still see a lot around campus, someone that I love and someone that I have caused myself a great deal of pain over. Even after revelatory bursts of enlightenment it is possible to slip back into unconscious identification with the mind. I still felt traces of my longing for her. I still felt a desire to "have" her, to fill the falsely perceived void in my self. Being one of our most basic instincts, it will always be difficult to overcome the desire for the love of another person. But as long as I continue to wish for a moment that now only exists in my mind as a trace of memory to be the present, I am resisting the present Now that is. Love is not resistance. Love is acceptance. To resist what someone is and say that you love them is completely nonsensical. How can you love them, if what you love is not what they are? How can love have conditions placed upon it? How can you say "I love you, but only if you are with me, and since are not, then I don't"? There is so much denial and unacceptance in that train of thought that it makes love impossible. Once this realization is attained, and all ideas of seperateness and loneliness are realized to be illusions, only then can we feel a real and lasting love for anything or anyone.
The power of our actions is such that they are like stones dropped into an boundless pool of water that reaches into infinity. The ripples created touch all things eventually, and pass but never cease.
It is not a hope, but a knowledge for me that the things that I learn and realize burn like a flame, and when I come close to another through words or through meeting our spirits will burn brighter together, and still burn bright even if we part. It is all the same flame.
