I've come to notice a trend around these parts. There are a lot of vegan folks here. Also, it seems, a lot of people who oppose animal research.
Vegetarianism and Veganism interest me. Depending on a person's individual reason for choosing that lifestyle I either respect them, or immediately consider them 'uneducated.' If said person chooses the diet because they oppose the way animals are treated on the industrial farms and such, I respect them. Its not enough to turn me vegan, but its deserving of respect. However, if they think its wrong to eat animals in general... well I feel like sending them to high school Biology class. All you have to do is look at human's teeth to see that we are omnivores. We have sharp front teeth and canine teeth designed for the cutting of meat as well as flat molars for grinding plant matter. Not to mention that our digestive tract is designed for digesting plant and animal tissue. Its the food chain.
Also... I work in a lab that does animal research. The fact of the matter is that if it weren't for animal research, human life expectancy would be drastically lower than it is. If you're truly against animal research, its basically hypocritical if you take any pharmceutical. Everything from Tylenol and Aspirin to the most complex anti-cancer chemotherapy drug has been tested extensively on animals.
I'm not trying to offend anyone or make any enemies by saying any of this, they are just two topics that interest me.
