Guess i should update this sweet sassy molassy....

So, for this year's Lent, i've decided to give up meat. I'm a pretty damn lapsed Catholic and all that stuff, but i figured this was the perfect spring board for trying to go veggie.

What's that you say? Max16MeatEater is going veggie? eeek Well yes, yes i am. Why you ask?

To tell the truth, i'm not all that sure really. There's a lot of good reasons to do so...morals, ethics, more reasonable use of earth resources, weight loss, that stuff is so damn good now etc... I guess really though what it comes down to is that it's a challenge. I want to see if i can do this and i'm sure i have the willpower and mental strength, so we'll just see where that road leads.

In other news, my friend Phil finally came home from the hell that is Iraq. He was in it from the very beginning. From the buildup in Kuwait to the drive to Baghdad. He's pretty much the same guy--caustic, acerbic, non-PC, whitty and funny--but he's also different. It seems cliche to say this but he left a boy and came back like ten times the man he was. He's got such an intense look in his eyes and carries himself so much more confidently it's amazing. It's hard to look him in the eyes.

I guess both of us have changed a lot over the past year. He took one look at my long hair and said, "What are you? Lord Byron now?" Haha....it was like an inch long when he left and now it's about 8+ inches. So i guess we'll just see what the dynamic's like now.

That's all for now my skeezy perneezies, check ya on the fizzle! whatever

things are doing alright in the wonderfully dirty city of d-town...there are it's good things and it's bad. the bad seem to be calming down a bit. i had a awsome time taking pics the other day and will do it again in the beginning of march. i love my photographer...he is way cool. plus, i started dating a guy or should i say man. he's a bit older than i am but not to much. the only problem is he lives in canada so i don't get to see him more than two or three times a week, but we talk alot so that's cool...how's things with you and the wonderful city of pgh? other than what is said in your journal that is...

hey dude, that Jerky that Coco was talkin bout... you can get it at The east end food co-op Its mad easy to get to, right off of Penn and Braddick Ave..... The Fake Meats they carry are pretty desent.... I'd Highly Recomend the Tofurkey Brand Kilbasa. Ive chopped it up real fine and used it in a German Stye Potato Salad, and Its pretty tasty right out the package... Also, try the Veggie Buffalo Wings....

I did go for the cookies. And good luck with the veggie thing. Even if it turns out to be not really for you perhaps you can be a veggie part-time after Lent.

I was a vegetarian for 8 years and gave it up. I've been thinking of going back to it...but I don't know I was never good at keeping track of getting protein from other foods. Hmm?? Good Luck! Oh and the picture you made for me, completely fucking made my day!! Thank You so much!!! love kiss love

I don't really have a "major" in any traditional sense. I'm in a Liberal Studies program, which people usually use to take some general studies courses before they transfer out to a "better" school. But I am too poor for that.

So basically I am taking whatever interests me. biggrin

For some reason the Lord Byron comment struck me as absurdly funny. Probably the irony inherent to the myth v. reality of Byron.

My brother's girlfriend's brother was in Iraq for a while this past year. He was one of those guys who defused bombs and whatnot. I really didn't get to know him before, but I'm told that the military has changed him. Who knows.

Veggie? One of the many things I could never do.

dude, you should check out Zen Garden and New Dumpling House. Zen is totaly vegetarain, a bit pricy, and fancy, but people seem to dig it.
New Dumpling House, is more traditional chinese food, and they have a nice selection of Veggie Meats, and its priced at what you would normaly spend at a chinese restaraunt.... Try the Veggie Yellow Bird.... its amazing.... New Dumpling House is on Murry Ave. next to Jerrys Records, and Zen Garden is at the Corner off Forbes and Shady...

vegweb.com is also a really good resource for simple and quick recipies...

wow.. youv'e had so much support!! thats awesome!!!

have a stack of vege burgers and vege dogs in the fridge.. it takes a long time for them to go off and they're a good quick meal fix in case you get tempted...

have hot dog and hamburger buns in the freezer...

also.. try hommous instead of margerine on your vege burger... very very delicous with a bit of sweet chilli sauce...

it may seem really overwhelming now.. but just take it one step at a time.. if you do crumble and eat some meat... you will notice the difference... but its totally adjusting to a new life.. it makes you really concious about what you put in your body...

and seriously.. you might fall off the wagon a few times... its hard to develop such different eating habits..

kiss when you come to melbourne I'm gunna take you to some seriously fine veg restaurants!

oh and dont expect ot lose weight... you may initially.. but Iv'e put on like 5kgs since I went vegan.... but I'm too good a baker!!!! *licks lips* but yeah... you're eating a helluva lot more breads and nuts and stuff which equal a few more pounds.. but perhaps it might be better for you cause you run everyday and maybe your body could actually use a little more carbos..
