Fuck the Shit
Last night I went to the best gig I have ever been to - and that's saying something man, I've seen Tom Jones. I had the opportunity to see the Canadian band Sons of Butcher along with the travelling freak show The Great Orbax. Oh my goodness, what a night
Met up with Trocar and AsItComesToMe at around nine o'clock - tried to coerce23ian23 into coming with us, but he was a sicky
We took my car and headed down to MRC. The cover was $20, which seemed a bit expensive, but I was willing to splurge, they are, afterall, cartoons - and how often do we get to see those in a live show?
The Great Orbax opened the show, calling the entire audience to converge at the base of the stage. The atmosphere was fantastic(very intimate), and his act was based on classic 1930's/1950's freakshows, with a
Vaudevillian-flare. His bits included the classic "Block Head" (nail in the nose), but with an unexpected twist: a larger nail, and then a dinner fork
! His nasal talents were further demonstrated with condom acrobatics, and the spraying of mucous over spectators. He did the classic getting-out-of-a-straight-jacket (dislocating his shoulder in the process as part of the act), but to the song stylings of the Spice Girls - he then danced around through the audience, and even giving me (who was sitting fairly far back) a lap dance. Also included in his show was a "magic" card trick..... yadda yadda yadda, I used a staple gun on his ass (!) - lol, go ask AsItComesToMe, he's got all the pics. I actually got to keep the somewhat bloody playing card. AsItComesToMe also got to participate in the show, but unfortunately I missed it when I went to wash my hands - smashing wine bottles for The Great Orbax to put his face in. What an amazing set.... he was super funny too.
Sons of Butcher tuned up their instruments in regular street clothes, and I was actually a bit worried that that was going to be it - but the boys didn't disappoint, they came onto stage in their full spandexed glory for the show
I was really surprised with their talent. Having only seen them on their cartoon, I expected kind of a half-assed band, but man, these guys can PLAY. They looked just like their animated selves.... especially Doug Borski, omg, the guy is hiliarious. He had all the girls *screaming* They did a pretty long set, with four encore songs. Even doing a Pussycat Dolls cover (wtf?!), which was very impressive.
After the show they signed merch, and boobs:
They were really good sports too, posing for tons of pictures and signing a bunch of stuff. I must say, their ears perked up when I asked their permission to post said pics on Suicide Girls I let them know my name here, so we'll see if they stop by.... in the end, Doug gave me a hug and he was sweaty and I LOOOOOOVED it, lol.
