Just returned from a gig in a tiny bar in my old hometown, so I'm camped out on my parents's couch for the night. Johnny Cash covers were my moneymakers, as usual: cash for Cash. I immediately poured some of that money into more music for my collection: some Chuck Brown, Nels Cline, another volume from that Ethiopiques series, Handel's "Messiah..." thinking about downloading some of the Smithsonian's lectures on 12-tone music or modal counterpoint, but I've still got those discs on traditional harmony to work through.

I have several blogs elsewhere and I was recently shocked to learn that many of my acquaintances have been following it for months or years. I didn't think anybody read those... I've been writing almost as though talking to myself, totally candid. Yow.

I've been writing some intermezzos for a local dance company and those are almost done. They were fun to compose; I took my cues from spy movie music and surf guitar, mostly. I'm proud of what I managed with just a piano, a guitar, vibraphones, and voice. It'll be a nice resume item.

I went from rags to riches this month and I don't know what the fuck to do with all that money. But it gives me the option to refuse to play Cash covers for a few months. I like that. I'm sick of Cash.
