So Jen came over last night and we watched Monsoon Wedding, which I thought was really good. A lot of it made me smile.

I'm trying to write a tribute to Johnny Cash, but it's daunting. I don't think I'll be able to finish it before the deadline today, so maybe tomorrow.

The song of the day is "My Little Underground" by the Jesus & Mary Chain. Closest thing to a pop song on their first album.

the other night, at a dinner party, some old cash albums found their way onto the phonograph... it was a quiet period in the conversation, and everyone, in unison, seemed to take a moment of silence... the conversation started up, but not long after the resident music aficionado somberly stated "There's something... haunting... about listening to their music so soon after they've passed."

it was an interesting thought. do we need "space" from the event to gain perspective? are our feelings any more valid once they've had time to stew?

and smiling is always a good thing.
