New Years Resolutions:

01 Start kickboxing immediately. I'm not happy with my body. I normally am, right now, I am very not. I have been saying that I would start training Muay Thai as soon as I could manage it; well, I haven't been able to. Months ago, a huge gym opened up next to my house, if that is not a sign from the gods then I do not know what is.

02 Stop working in my house by the middle of January. My brain and body are never properly rested and it is affecting my physical and mental health signifigantly. The home is a place to rest and relax and to enjoy life. It should be treated as such.

Random Notes from my Phone (TBS):

• WMBOH is about ideas. The editorial vision dictates the theme and the product and the identity. Boil the ideas down to their essence; synthesize it and create a marketable commodity.

• You never know when you are going to fall.

• When reading books, write chapter summaries, and take notes in one place and HIGHLIGHT!!!

• Turn out students with no regard for their making it in the work place. Don't bother with challenging their intelligence or separating them onto tracks that consider their needs. School's are run like a business and get the worst of both worlds not their best.

• Through Ayn Rand's romanticism I have a vehicle to tell stories whose thematic materials contain elements of current culture that I wish ti express an opinion on. I am smart. Articulate and persuasive -- underused strenghts of mone.

• Systems guru the shit out of my life.

• WMBOH must be self-serving and tied into my career and artistic growth or it will fail.

• Sometimes, I just want to move to my own planet and create good graphic design.

• Simplify. Make money. Make healthy. Make happy.

• Love comics. Don't be embarrassed; don't be apologetic. The medium may not be a money-maker right now, but it is a medium of immeasurable creative expression, with huge potential for education.

• I want to die punk rock.

• Identify and chart the anatomy of a page design... Limit my magazine to techniques that I want to use. The design of the magazine is a container that sorts and displays the content.

• Boundaries: what I am willing to learn, what is unnecessary and what is superfluous. The only scale of judgement I can be measured on is my own. I must look at myself every morning, the answers are within. It is bad when one thing becomes two.

• Bauhaus baby! let the function show!

• Ayn Rand's Romanticism allows me to tell stories that are current, nonfiction as thematic statements made in fiction stories. Opinions are to be prided not subdued. School closes minds and limits thinking. I am smart, articulate and persuasive. I am observant and passionate. I can make people feel things. These are strengths that art school is not trained to recognize. Its too late for me, my education has been too uneven to star from scratch and my skillset and interests are too diverse to fit in a major. Comics is writing and drawing and storytelling. Film and illustration and literature don't cover it properly. Too limiting, too much extraneous bs.

• A gut reaction to a pre-fabricated reality.

• 1 project at a time. Projects are learning experiences. Work it until you are happy. But still hit your personal deadline. As the completed projects pile up, there will be sets of skills that have been learned. Perspective keeps impatience and frustration at bay.
