I purchased myself a journal today. I think journal keeping has become somewhat of a lost art in this era of "better, faster, stronger." No one wants to devote any time to it, as they have "better" things to do.
All of history's great thinkers kept journals. Aristotle, da Vinci, Socrates, etc. And though I'm hardly putting my self on the same level of thought as the greats, what I am doing is honoring their belief that individual human thought is important. I may not have any grand revelations for the modern era, but maybe my thought processes will aid someone else in their discoveries.
I'm not talking about a diary, either. I do not plan on talking to myself in written form. What I am doing is capturing all of the ideas I have floating around in my head, and possibly expounding on them. Philosophies, musings, stories, ideas, and rational thought processes.
I can't wait to get started, actually.
