Damned Damned Damned
I often wish Dave Vanian and the gang just call it a day. I cant help feeling that all that this legendary punk/goth band is making today is a parody of themselves. It makes me want to vomit on the Captain's head--then again, that's not really something new....
The band in question is of course 'The Damned'.
I have, and all will be, despite their current punk-dinosaur status, a big fan of The Damned. The Damned were the first UK punk group to release a single ('New Rose'), the first to release an album ('Damned Damned Damned) and the first to tour America. And they have been consistantly once of my favourite bands to see live.
When I first visited their official website some months ago my initail reaction was to shudder: the site design looked like a Fisher-Price toy and the recently took photos of the band members, barring the eternal saturnine-pulchritude of the now Mrs. Dave Vanian, Patricia Morrison, showed a maturation that could all to easily be confused with putrefaction. I left with all haste.
I plucked up the courage for a re-visiting tonight and was glad I did. The toy-time interface is still in place and no miricle elixir has been found to re-juvinate these punk-survivors. However, staying to look around I was pleasantly surpised to find that the site actually had a lot to offer someone, if not particularly me. Besides news on the bands current projects it housed a concise history of the band, a full discography, a dozen or so tracks in MP3 format to download and a couple of videos.
The site advertised the fact that it is the 25th Anniversary Machine Gun Etiquette and I just had to give it a spin straight after.
If your alrerady been initiated into The Damned you might might find yourself grimicing but Id say its worth a look. If youve never been introduced to The Damned, your probably under 25 years old and should go just so you can have a good laugh at your elders.
