'm reviving an old topic that I brought up in the past but didn't proceed with at that time: Cow-pooling.

The idea is to go in together on a steer which would be butchered and packaged for us. I have a source I use locally now and wanted to open it up to anyone else interested. They have heritage breeds for their steer, hogs, lambs, goats, and chickens. They are 100% grass-fed and organic, they do not age their meats, and price includes all butchering and packaging.

Pork:

1 Whole English Hog, Cut and Wrapped: $6.25lb (You may choose a young suckling as small as 40.lbs and a market size hog can weigh up to 290.lbs (finished weight).)

One Whole Luau/Oven Roaster "Kunekune" Pig $6.95lb (R.R.F's Kunekune oven roasters/luau pigs can weigh from 10.lbs up to 50.lbs (finished weight), you choose.)

Beef:
1 Whole Beef (240.0lbs) $6.44lb

Desert Beef Share Package (1/3, 80.0+lbs) $6.60lb

Other:
Chickens: 20 for $250 (2.5-3.5 pounds each, regular processing of chickens includes leaving feet and necks attached (no heads). No Giblets promised)

1 Whole Lamb $8.00lb

1 Whole Goat $8.00lb

If you want, you can become a member of the farm and buy ala carte (only farm members are allowed on the their property). Located in Phelan, pickup days on the farm first Saturday of the month (they do not ship). http://www.rainbowranchfarms.com/

Anyone interested in a hog, steer, lamb or goat share, or splitting up an order of chickens, PM me and I will get back to whomever is interested.

Is this just for people in the LA area? Cause if not...

well, part of the point is to buy local and not ship frozen meat...and you certainly have no lack of places up there to buy! Talk to http://aftonfieldfarm.com/ and see if there is a cowpool or hogpool that buys from them. They are the same sort of grass-fed pastured sustainable heritage breed farmers.

If you're stuck, you are welcome in on this deal, just let me know and we can sort something out. I need a trip to Portland so maybe I'll deliver if you pay the baggage fee or something like that

Well, it was more just casual interest than anything- I know atomicant and some of the other degenerates up here have mentioned doing something like that at one point or another, so I saw your post and thought I'd ask. You're probably right, though, there can't be a shortage of local meat in THIS town.

Still, if you're in need of a trip to PDX... wink

If I was still in LA and had sufficient freezer space, I would definitely be interested... Good luck!

Interested, but I'm not sure that I have the freezer space.

dude, contemporary parts (technology) on a vintage looking bike is basically my dream bike... I will have 50 more reasons to go to LA more now wink

I used to buy 1/2 a pig and 1/2 a goat every year when I lived rurally (after I gave up vegetarianism...) it's the best. and freezers today are way more efficient!

I really want to! I just can't afford to drive out there with the amount of time I'm working and how little I'm making while doing it. :/ God damn it, being a grown up sucks.
