So BSG takes place 58 years after the first Cylon was created. The last 40 years of said 58 were spent in a truce. Hence what started BSG. Caprica takes place before BSG, but SyFy released BSG first. Caprica was just a spin off prequel I guess that got approved. I think they need to do this for Star Wars as well. So these two series have captivating plots. When I see these episodes, I'm just glued to it. But I can't watch them with episodes. It just kills the effect. Almost literally, every little detail matters.
Story goes that the first Cylon was created on Caprica by a scientist that does defense work for the Caprican government. His daughter created a virtual world and kept an avatar of herself in there. She died in a suicide bombing during an attempt to leave Caprica to another colony(they call "planets" colonies). So the daughter's best friend went to went to the friend's house and went into the v-world(virtual world) and got caught by the scientist. Which led him to find his dead daughter's secret avatar. He downloaded the avatar and manipulated it into the first cylon ever created. The big metal ones, not the skin jobs(skin job is another name for cyborg, human looking cylon). I'm sure they find a way to piss off the cylon metal chick and starts a chain reaction leading to the Cylon War. They also tie in Admiral Adama from BSG when he was a young boy.
When BSG came out, it was mind-blowing. The story line was just so intense and as I like to put it "Mind Frakking" LOL(Frak another word for fuck in the good form of censorship). There's 12 cylon skin jobs manifested into society living different lives, basically sleeper cells. Most of them were on Galactica itself. The rest in media or refugees from what was left of all humanity. The drama was in your face like a Maury Povich "who's the baby daddy" episode times a million.

Chief cursed her, turned his back on her. A felllow crew member, Calli, killed Boomer for being a cylon. Chief was crushed. Chief later then pummeled Calli to within an inch of her life, not in relation to her shooting Boomer. He was day dreaming when he attacked her. They then later marry and have a child together. The second baby/cylon hybrid born. The first hybrid is a long story LOL. Anyway, Galactica finds a habitable planet and they call it New Caprica. They get invaded by cylons and Chief starts a union for workers. He also involved in the resistence aganist cylons. Calli faced a firing squad. Luckily, she was saved by Chief. Later, Chief started a mutiny on a ship bc the workers were being treated poorly and Admiral Adama threatened to put Calli in the airlock. So Chief called off the mutiny. Then Calli and Chief were put into a situation of a failing airlock due to a previous cylon attack and they were almost booted into space. Chief later then found out he was a cylon himself. Calli found out he was a cylon, but was unable to warn anyone on Galactica bc she was killed by another skin job later revealed via airlock. Buh bye! Right into space. Poor bitch can't catch a break in an airlock LOL. I felt sorry for the poor girl. Then Chief found out way later that his cylon sister killed Calli and he killed the cylon chick. And then he lives a life of solitude on New Earth. You see what I'm talking about...like all the pain and suffering this guy has gone through? Imagine this but for like almost every important character.
I'm also very intrigued with how they incorporated astrology with astronomy. From my understanding, there were 13 colonies to begin with. 12 of them human, 1 cylon. The original 13 colonies they called them. The 13th colony, the cylons, died off. What's funny is that the 13th colony lived on Earth originally. But 5 skin jobs stayed hidden within humanity for decades. The remaining 12 colonies set on to another galaxy far away and started all over again. Each planet is named after an astrology sign like Caprica(mini series spin off) is for Capricorn etc. Within the rebuild, somehow the 5 cylons were able to manipulate the Cylon war and how the whole BSG story is introduced later on. So all these people in the fleet left alive, some 49,000, from all 12 planets(astrologically named) need to find Earth based on astronomy charts. Mixing the two was genius! When they get to Earth, they see the same thing that happened on Caprica happened to the 13th colony. It was uninhabitable and they had to find another Earth.
I think the folks at SyFy have really outdone themselves. And I just started watching Caprica. Too bad it was cancelled. I hope they tied it in good for the next spin off, BSG : Blood & Chrome. Amazing title by the way.
