I miss a friend.

I'd known of her ever since I was little. We met a couple of times but never really got to know one another properly - we only ever seemed to meet on shopping trips with relatives or when I used to go to the airport to wave my dad away when he went on business trips.

It wasn't until I was 18 that we really got to know one another. I had made a choice to go to be with her and from then on we were lumped with one another. She taught me a lot and somehow held the cause and solution to all of my problems, but not once did I ever think of leaving her behind in the 3 years we were together in a kind of friendship.

The friendship was one that made me realise a lot about myself. I remember once when I was dealing with clinical depression some friend commenting on her as being "dull and depressing". Wasn't I just the same?

Maybe it was more obvious because she was a city afterall.

Hmmm, sounds like a very good friend. Pray tell which fair city be this? If it was Inverness, then it would be understandable. It is one of my favourite cities, somewhere I spent many a childhood holiday exploring. At the time tho it had still not reached its city status (I don't think).

Never mind, I am sure your friend will appreciate a visit any time.

Mainly bad reasons are down to a single person. Very very ex girlfriend.

Kinda poisoned me against the city.

Not been back since tho to be fair. Maybe should give it a second chance.

You should. I had a very bad relationship there too, which was one of the factors that made me clinically depressed.

Ah the joys of being in love.

Oh how I miss those feelings of being dumped and the months of self loathing!!!

So odd. I'd never really thought about a city being a friend before, but I guess that's how I feel about Canterbury. I went to university there, and ended up staying for about a month short of ten years. I still miss the place, but I think I just grew out of needing to be there, and being within the comfort zone of the city and the people I knew there. I guess we grew apart, like a lot of very old friends do, but still get together once in a while to catch up.

So do you go back often? Every time I drive down to Canterbury, there's one particular part of the trip - just before I hit the city, there's a sweeping curve down a hill, and the cathedral comes into view - every time I hit that point, there's this feeling of reconnection, even more so than when I go home to the family in Wales. Regardless of what other reason I'm going there for, just that one moment usually makes the trip worthwhile. Once you get over the painful memories and start remembering Aberdeen for the reasons you wanted to be there, I reckon you'll find that too.

Damn. I've started rambling on again... Haven't been drinking, so I guess it must be the lateness....

Time for bed - nighty night!
