Important Marines Update
This monday, the 26th may be the single most important day in my whole life so far.
This is the day in which I go to the Military Enlistment Processing Station (MEPS) in San Jose. I will take a bunch of tests. Mean guys in uniforms will try their hardest to get me to confess to all the crimes I've ever committed. Doctors will explore every oriface and skin blemish to make sure I am healthy. I'll have to do some exercises to see how good of shape I'm in (luckily the real Initial Strength Test doesn't come till later so I still have time to get in shape--and the recruiters will help me with that). And I don't even know what else. I know it'll take all day.
The main three important things about this day are:
-My performance on the tests will determine what jobs are available to me.
-If there's something wrong medically I might not be let in at all.
-If I somehow am found to be lying I might not get a security clearence which means I could get stuck with a 4-year lawnmowing or dishwashing job.
Also, this is when I'll be signing contracts and taking oaths. Don't worry, they're not the really real contracts and oaths (those will come just before I ship out). I can still back out at anytime for any reason up until just before I actually get on the plane.
Anyways, so yeah, this monday is HUGE.
Then within a few days after that I choose my three choices of jobs and pick the day I leave. (which should be Apr 4th)
What all this means to you: (if you live in SF)
I think Monday night we should have a party. Either a "Yay! Dave_H gets to be a babykiller!" party, or a "Yay! Dave_H gets to stay in SF and do nothing!" party.
Either way, after that kind of stress I'm gonna need a drink or 10. Who's in?
