I ask for opinions all the time, from all sorts of people. Some I agree with, some I don't, but I try my best to listen.
Here's how I think one should go about asking someone's opinion about something:
1) explain the situation
2) ask the question
3) listen
4) thank the person for their time and shut up.
It ain't that hard.
