It started out in the 20's as Italian villa style apartments, complete with marble stairs, intricate tiling, wrought iron balconies and a central fountain. It's so interesting seeing all the different architectural styles.
After doing some bar hopping, and watching a few fireworks, we went back to relax in our room.
On the 5th I woke up at the crack of dawn and spent all day waiting to see Tom Waits. I haven't felt that anxious and impatient since I was a kid going to Disney World. We spent most of the day walking around the city...probably a good thing after all the drinking and eating we'd be doing. Lol.
Finally, it was time for the show at the Fox Theatre. Photos don't do this place justice. Inside, it is gorgeous, decorated with beautiful patterns, and a sky that resembles the stars.

I can't even begin to describe how wonderful the show was. There were a few songs I thought he was a little off on, but for the most part, the music and performance blew me away; from his mirrored hat, to his superball-eyeball, and the gritty cloudy dust and the sparkling glitter. His commentary was also pretty funny, and his musicians impressive. There must have been at least 20 different instruments used in his set. The acoustics were perfect. With "Falling Down" played early in the night, Tom already had the audience hooked. "Chocolate Jesus" kept them hanging on and "Innocent When You Dream" was a sad and beautiful song, that he asked the audience to sing along. I am really hoping that Tom releases a DVD of that...
