Frustration:
I want to shoot, but can not find a model. I have so many ideas(that don't include photoshop) but I am having a hard time. I am just tired of shooting lace curtain shit. Oh well I guess all things at the right time.

Well it was mentioned that I do not blog, so I guess I might put them up as I see fit.
Tonight... well was a humbling experience.
You think to yourself that you are comfortable with something that you do.
Then suddenly you are humbled.
Tonight I am humbled, but motivated at the same time.

Photoshop is an amazing tool. The problem is we sometimes don't know when to put the tool down.

When you open an image in Photoshop, just look at it. Look at it and figure out what you want to do to it. Then look for the areas you want to apply that look.

While you are learning Photoshop, get in the habit of keeping the original image in tact - meaning don't touch it! Copy it to a new layer (you click on it then drag it to the New Layer icon) or you can use the faster way of holding the CTRL key down while pressing the J key at the same time. (If you are on a Mac, then hold the Command key down.)

Now you will always have the original image so you can do a before/after look - OR, you can change the opacity of the layer you edited to dial in just the right amount of effects.

Just simplify your process. You want to do the following when retouching:
* Light, Color, and Tone
* Clean up (distractions like straps, blemishes, wild hairs, anything that distracts from the image)
* Enhance (make certain areas of the image stronger that need to stand out, reshape areas - any "real" retouching/photo editing)

Just remember to not overdo it.

Join the Photoshop group. Seriously, you can learn a lot there. Once wedding season winds down I was thinking about making some video tutorials for the group on photo retouching.

Anyway, do not feel bad about the post...it was all in light-hearted fun. I assure you. biggrin

This DOES happen to a lot of people. Keep in mind that some people have been on here a long time and been very active. There is a HUGE community within this site. The Hopefuls group can be a huge clusterfuck that is definitely a source of entertainment at times.

Get a feel for the site and make some friends. Join some groups related to other things you're interested in. SG Military maybe? To clarify what I said in that thread, DO post, but refrain from posting about shooting for the site until you're a bit more established here. It will go over a lot better if you do.
