Sorry for the late update, it was partially not my fault. I meant to update my journal yesterday, either using my phone or when I got home, but it turns out when I did get home my DSL had been disconnected. When I called they said I couldn't talk to billing until this morning but I could manage my account online.
So I went to my mom's house to use my sister's computer, and it turned out I couldn't do anything, cause I had no account to manage. Geniuses over there at BellSouth, really. So I called today, and it turns out I had paid my account and it was in good standing, so the disconnect order was a mistake. Nice, anyhow, so I guess I'll attempt to let y'all know about what I did yesterday.
There is a horsetrack here called Gulfstream Park, it's actually closer to where I work. The cool thing about the place is that they have concerts all the time, usually classic rock acts, and they are free to the public with your $5 admission to the park. So pretty much you get the cheapest concerts anywhere in the area. Lots of cool people play there, and as you can see from my fav bands list, I like classic rock so it's cool.
I was bummed that I missed seeing Steppenwolf and Bad Company last week since I was in Tampa, cause those are two of my fav bands, so I was determined to see Styx play last night even though I don't like em as much. Also, my mom has been taking an unusual interest in the music I listen to as of late so I figured it'd be a good get together for us. Turns out however that when I asked her she had already made plans to go to dinner. Oh well, a night out alone for me again.
So I left work early since I had worked late the night before, and since the place is a lot closer to work than home, I went straight to the park. There was no point in me driving an hour extra for no reason. Apparently however, I was the first one in the concert seating parking, so I had time to kill.
I walked around for a while once inside the park, I'd just eaten lunch not too long ago so I wasn't hungry, and everyone I tried to call to pass the time was either still working or not answering. So I figured I'd see what a horse race was like, since I'd never been to one. It was rather anti-climactic, you can't really see much of the race cept on the big screen and it ends kinda quick and there are only like 8 in the whole day. But, I guess that's one thing I can say I've done now. I'd post a better pic, but the one I took of them off the track and finishing didn't come out that well.
I got bored with the horses after a while so I went back to my car, and geeked out with my laptop and phone, checking out my comments on SG and such and listening to the radio which was actually playing Styx since they were in town. I got back around concert time, and staked out a nice spot near the front side, reserved for blankets and such. Ate a pizza and coke I got for eye-gouging prices as expected and listened to the show, which wasn't bad.
I've noticed there are two major problems going to classic rock concerts. One is, rarely if the band is still together do they have all or even any of the original members. So that kinda takes some of the fun out of it since it's not the same people you listen to in the songs you like.
The other is when the bands are so sick of their own songs they don't play their hits, instead opting for their latest album. This happens with newer bands as well, I heard for example that Jane's Addiction played mostly their new album at Lollapalooza, another concert I'm really bummed I missed, mostly cause of Audioslave and other bands I been wanting to see.
So anyhow the latter was the case this time, the only Styx songs I like are Renegade and Mr. Roboto, the others are too hair bandish for my taste. They only played a few seconds of Mr. Roboto in a 16 song medley they did, and Renegade was their last song, I almost didn't think they'd play it at all. The rest were songs I'd never heard of.
One highlight though is early on in the concert I saw this super cute girl, wearing baggy khakis and a stripy sweater, which she later took off to reveal some tatoos. She looked kinda young like 18 or 19 and actually a lot like fallen_angel777 only with much lighter skin, which to me is more attractive.
I was able to snap a quick pic of her while I was taking some of the band. She didn't seem to be with anybody but I didn't have the balls to say anything to her. But I did enjoy listening to the concert behind her, she was too cute rocking out to every song, doing air guitar, drums and just flailing her arms all night. Pretty dorky, but she was having fun and I was having fun watching her
Anyhow, so that was my night, not bad relatively, it did suck I didn't have DSL until today, but I just caught up on my TiVo. My e-mail still doesn't work so I need to call about that. Anyhow, I'm out now, I'm sure I've written enough and some of you will bitch about the length. Tough, I'm bored
