1.1 How do I become a SuicideGirl?
When a model submits a set to the site she chooses to either submit it to ()member review, ()staff review or ()both.
The set is then verified by our model coordinator to ensure model age has been documented and that it meets our minimum photographic requirements.
It if it is submitted as ()member review it is posted in the member review area and model is given a free "hopeful" account if she is not already a SuicideGirl.
If it is submitted as ()staff review it is reviewed by staff and either accepted into the staff queue or rejected.
If it is submitted as ()both it will first be reviewed by staff and either accepted into the staff queue or passed into the member review area.
Every day we will publish at least two sets combined from staff review and member review to publish on the front page as "Sets of the Day". When your set is published on the front page you and your photographer are paid $500.
Every month we will be giving away a variety of prizes worth $1000 to sets that were published either as sets of the day or to the member review area. They will be featured as prize winners on the front page.
A hopeful becomes a SuicideGirl when she wins set of the day or one of the $1000 prizes.
2.2 How do I apply to be a SuicideGirl?
You can just go to
http://www.suicidegirls.com/model
and apply there.
Please include three to five pictures that give an accurate impression of what you look like. Try to include at least one head shot and at least one body shot - a link to your myspace page is always helpful!
2.3 What happens once you get my application? Am I a SuicideGirl if you write me back?
If your application is accepted, you will receive a login to a special applicant area of the site.
Once you log in, you will need to send us
- two forms of id
- a model release form
- a photography release form
- a photoset
You will be able to choose if you would like to submit your photoset for staff review, member review or both when you send us your pictures.
Once all your paperwork and your set has been submitted, you will get an email about the status of your photoset.
You become a SuicideGirl when your photoset goes up as the "set of the day" or wins one our monthly prizes.
2.4 How long do I have to get all this stuff to you?
Your application does not expire - you can complete your application whenever you are ready.
If you are not interested in being a SuicideGirl, you do not have to complete the application process. We will keep your information on file if you should change your mind, but we will not contact you for anything.
2.5 I can't log in to my application, I forgot my password!
You can go to the login page here:
http://suicidegirls.com/models/
Your login/username is your email address, and you can click "Forgot Password" and it will generate a new one for you! If you do not receive a password, make sure to check your spam and junk mail folders. You should copy and paste it in exactly, and definitely save the email with it. You can't set your own password for the application area, only the randomly generated passwords are used.
If your forgot your password to your website membership, please go here.
3.6 What IDs do I need to send you? Why?
We must have proof of your age and identity in order for you to model for SG. You must be over 18 years old for legal reasons, absolutely no exceptions.
We need two of the following IDs. One of them must be a photo ID, and at least one must have your date of birth.
A government issued photo ID like your drivers license or passport.
* Your birth certificate
Your social security card (U.S. citizens only)
* A school ID
* National insurance card
* Any other state or government issued ID.
3.7 How can I get my IDs to you?
If you have access to a scanner you should scan both IDs as one file - you can place them face down next to each other on the scanner and send it as one file. Please label the scan ID.jpg and you may upload it in your application area to move on to the next step.
If you can take a clear and legible photo of your ID you may photograph your IDs. Please label the photo ID.jpg and upload it into the applicant area. Both IDs must be legible when printed out - if they are not clear enough, we may ask you to send a clearer picture.
If you need to mail us a photocopy, our address is:
SuicideGirls
5482 Wilshire Bl. #1925
Los Angeles, CA 90036
Attn: Model Co-Ordinator
YOU MAY NOT FAX COPIES OF YOUR ID, THEY ARE NOT LEGIBLE.
If you are planning on mailing your set in on CD please include your ID photocopies, your signed release form and W9 form (if you are in the U.S.) in one package. Sending in everything at once minimizes trips to the post office and reduce the risk of things getting lost in the shuffle.
Your ID scan, photo or photocopy must be CLEAR and LEGIBLE.
4.8 What is a model release form? Why do I have to fill it out?
We need your consent to use the photos of you. You can download the model release here. All models must fill out a model release, even if you live outside of the U.S.
If you have any questions about this form, please do not hesitate to email us - you should go to your model page and submit your question through the help box there, and we will get back to you as soon as we can, usually within a few days.
4.9 How do I get a model release?
The Model Forms Package can be downloaded here. Inside are the FAQ, the model release, the photography release, and the W9
You can also download all the forms you'll need in a package on your model page. Check the right side of the page, at the top, under "Downloads".
You will need Acrobat Reader in order to view and print the forms, you can download a free copy here: www.acrobat.com.
The package is a zipped file, which you can use Stuffit or Winzip to decompress.
If you have problems opening the zip file, message us through the model help section and we will email the pdfs to you.
4.10 How do I get the forms to you?
1. Print the forms.
2. Fill out the form by hand, we cannot accept typed-in forms.
3. Scan the form and save it as a .pdf or .jpg.
4. Upload the form to your model application where it says "we need your model release form." Once you upload the form, the page will refresh and say "We have your model release, thank you!" If it does not turn pink and say we have received it, please try uploading it again.
4.11 How do I fill out the model release?
You will need to print out the model release and fill it out with the following information:
*Your Signature
*Your printed name
*Your Address
*Your Date of Birth
*Your Phone Number
*Your Email Address
*Social Security number or Passport number - if you do not have either one of these, you can leave this field blank.
*SG Name is where you list your choices for a potential model name, please see FAQ under choosing a name for more on this.
4.12 I don't have a scanner!
If you aren't able to scan in your application items, here are a few ideas:
Use a friend's scanner or go to a FedEx/Kinko's or office service type place to have them scanned in.
If you have a digital camera, take high quality pics of your forms, make sure they're legible!
You can mail the forms into us, and can even include your first photoset on cd. Send to: ATTN: Model Coordinator, 5482 Wilshire Blvd #1925, Los Angeles, CA 90036. Please write your full name, model name, email address, and set name on the disc.
You can fax the forms to us at 323-962-6999, but please don't send your ID copies this way, they won't be legible.
If you're having issues uploading your forms, you can email them to us at modelassist@suicidegirls.com.
If you chose to send us your forms non-digitally, we will be manually updating your application when we receive them. If you don't see that section in your application marked as complete, please contact us. Sometimes the mail is slow, so please keep that in mind.
5.13 What is a W9?
The W9 is a tax form that we are required by law to have you fill out. The W9 is for US citizens only. If you are not a US citizen, you do not need to send us a W9 form.
If your address in your model application is a U.S. address, a W9 will be required to continue with your application, if you don't put an address or are outside of the U.S., the W9 part will not show up on your application. If your ID shows you to be a U.S. citizen, we will require the W9 form from you before we can pay you.
If you are currently staying in the U.S., but are not a U.S. citizen, leave that section in your application blank, and please send a note through the model help box on your application page so we can make note.
5.14 Where do I get a W9?
The Model Forms Package can be downloaded here. Inside are the FAQ, the model release, the photography release, and the W9
You can also download all the forms you'll need in a package on your model page. Check the right side of the page, at the top, under "Downloads".
You will need Acrobat Reader in order to view and print the forms, you can download a free copy here: www.acrobat.com.
The package is a zipped file, which you can use Stuffit or Winzip to decompress.
5.15 How do I fill out the W9?
You will need to print out the W9 and fill it out before you send it back to us:
Fill out your full real name and address where your checks will be mailed.
You are an individual/sole proprietor, please disregard the fields that ask specifically for business name, they do not apply to you.
You'll be providing your Social Security Number and not a EIN.
Mark whether you're exempt or not, if you're unsure, read the instructions on the following pages of the W9. The full W9 form can be viewed or downloaded here.
Sign and date!
We don't need you to submit the last three pages of the W9, just the first page.
6.16 What is a photoset?
A photoset is a series of 40-60 pictures of you that will go up on SuicideGirls.com. The photos must include nudity, so most sets take the format of a striptease or pinup girl series. All photos should be taken in one session with the same outfit, theme and setting.
The set should start out clothed and end up fully nude; the outfit and setting should remain consistent throughout the entire set! Remember, this is a site that features nudity so please include some in your set. Fully exposed breasts and bums are a must. Nudity should begin in the first half of the set, which usually starts around photo #10 in a finished set. We prefer the nudity not be explicit or overly pornographic, and definitely no penetration is allowed.
Each finished set generally consists of 45 65 pictures. This doesn't mean you should send the bare minimum, send enough so we have plenty of options to make a stellar set. You should take out the pictures that you or the photographer hate from your sets but send us the ones that you think are pretty good. The set you send us should have about 75 100 images. If you only submit the minimum of 40 pictures, chances are pretty slim that all of them will be good enough to make a set from. You cannot upload a set if it's under 35 photos.
You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the photoshoot, please keep this in mind if you have just recently turned 18.
6.17 Do I have to get naked?
Yes, you do have to be fully nude. Fully exposed breasts and bums are required, but spread shots definitely are not. The nudity should be tasteful not graphic, but you do have to be fully nude. Think along the lines of cute, pin-up photography and not explicit nudity.
Your application never expires, so you are more than welcome to wait until you are fully comfortable to send us a set.
6.18 What should my photoset be like?
The shoot should be fun and creative, and showcase your physical beauty as well as your personality. The shoots should be a fun experience for you whether we accept them or not. Don't stress or rush through the process. Some of the SG's were turned down several times before they had a set accepted. It is the girls that learned from the experience and had fun with it that eventually ended up being accepted.
You should shoot with a digital camera. Shooting digital saves both time and money. Always shoot your photos at the largest quality your camera has available and do not photoshop them before sending them in. We can only accept digital images as the quality is better and they are easier to process. You'll be submitting them for us to review as .jpg files, but you should hold on to the high resolution RAW files just in case.
Make sure that your make-up and hair are picture perfect. These images should show your personality and should be a real glimpse into your life but they are also naked pictures of you that will live on the internet forever, so why not put your best face forward?
You should be confident and comfortable in the images. There is no need to go overboard, especially if you do not generally wear makeup but a little face powder goes a long way to reduce the shine from hot lights and things like freshly dyed and styled hair and mascara really do make a difference.
Lighting really is the most important step in getting good photo quality. Make sure you have multiple lights in your set up. A cheap solution to indoor lighting problems is to buy a few inexpensive shop lights from a hardware store and high watt bulbs. We want to be able to see you in clear even light! Daylight is also a great option if you are not experienced with lighting techniques. Just make sure that you shoot in the morning or late afternoon when the light is even and not as harsh as mid day sun.
Backgrounds should either add to the set or be plain enough that it doesn't detract from the subject (the beautiful ladies). Messy bedrooms and bathrooms can be a real distraction and not artistic or sexy, so please try to keep the background tidy. We've noticed over the past year that sets shot with studio backdrops don't do nearly as well on the site as other kinds of sets. Please try to avoid shooting on a backdrop unless absolutely necessary.
Please be sure to include a variety of angles, close-ups, full body shots, and poses so that there are enough photos to work with. Sets with one camera angle only can seem a bit stiff and distant. Check out the Evette - Laura Petrie set on your application page to get a good idea of different shots and angles.
First sets must be in color, NO BLACK & WHITE SETS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR FIRST SETS. If black and white is crucial to the set theme, please contact us at photographycoordinator@suicidegirls.com to discuss it.
Make sure to check the sample sets on your application page to see what a quality photoset looks like.
6.19 What kinds of things should I avoid in my photoset?
We see many of the same themes over and over again. It is not anything personal against photographers or girls, we just can't accept sets over and over using the same themes. One thing to keep in mind is the fact that there are sets waiting to be queued, so just because you don't see too many sets of a certain theme, doesn't mean that we don't have 5 others waiting to be uploaded. We are really trying to maintain the quality and edge of the site, so get creative!! Here are some things that we have seen a lot of and we would like to avoid in the future:
HEAVY MAKEUP - We are using a HI-RES format now, so what looks great in person can look caked on and chalky in high definition. While some makeup enhances your features please be careful not to wear too much. In the same way the themes are supposed to show something about you, you should be the main focus not hiding behind a mask of make-up.
SEAMLESS BACKGROUNDS - Plain backgrounds (especially RED, BLACK, & WHITE or the dreaded textured 80's backdrop) are extremely boring and worse yet, can really wash you out. We want to see you in your most flattering light! Try picking a simple real life background that makes your eyes pop, or something that will make your outfit stand out without being too distracting.
STUFFED ANIMALS, SCHOOL GIRLS, and/or CHILDISH THEMES IN GENERAL - This is an adult site, and the child-themed sets are a little disconcerting to see here and frankly, a little creepy... We know, there's a "child inside each of us", but please keep that child inside!
WIGS and CRAZY HAIR STYLES - We know that it is a great way to dramatically alter your look. A few girls have pulled this look off well with great wigs and hairpieces, but really, a hot girl in a cheap wig, is still just a hot girl in cheap wig!! Also, pony tails or hair pulled back very tightly does not always translate well in photos - loose, natural hair is always preferred.
FEDORAS, FEATHER BOAS AND PIN STRIPES - We know how sexy gangster and can-can girls can be but the site is not really about old timey sensuality. It should be your modern take on how you feel most beautiful rather than an ode to the good old days. Please do not submit any sets with feather boas or fedoras or that old timey feel, they will not be accepted.
PAINT, DIRT, CANDLE WAX, FOOD, ETC - Smearing or pouring messy foods or liquids on yourself just SOUNDS sexy.. In theory, rubbing lotions, potions & goo all over your body is super hot, but it does not always translate well in photos. I know this has been said before, but if you look at the photos as a whole these drippy additions end up looking like weird growths or marks and not so sexy.
FORESTS, WOODS, AND BEACHES - These kinds of sets have been done WAAAY TOO MANY TIMES and generally wind up being very similar. It's an easy option because its free, typically deserted and you can use natural lighting, but if you're going to shoot in any of these places, really make it your own. Take a look at other sets with this background and see how each girl personalizes it and makes it interesting (the tag feature is extremely helpful for this.)
BLACK AND WHITE - We are currently not accepting any black and white sets - all sets must be in color.
BLOOD and WEAPONS - While horror movies remain my favorite, I think we have explored our horror avant guard side to the max. The sexy killing murder, suicide, blood dripping down boobies thing has been executed in many kick ass fashions on the site that will be hard to top - we are no longer accepting any sets with blood (real or fake) or implied murder/suicide.
Please try to avoid the themes above, as we have so many of them on the site and really want to see fresh, creative ideas. I know you can do it. Look more into themes that you can really pull off while still showing personality and expression!! You may want to get a membership to the site so that you can read and post set theme ideas in the SG Hopefuls group: http://suicidegirls.com/groups/SG+Hopefuls/
6.20 How do I send you the pictures?
You should log in to your model page and click on the "Manage Sets" tab to upload your set.
1. Make sure to enter a title for your set under "Set Title".
2. You will need to choose if you would like to upload this set for ()member review, ()staff review, or ()both.
3. You will need to submit a .zip file under 100mb for us to review. Once you upload the set, the page will refresh and say "Photoset: Complete Thank you! Select the Manage Sets tab to view the status of your sets." If it does not turn pink and say we have received it, please try uploading it again.
*NOTE* The file you are uploading is large and may take awhile to upload completely and may display only a portion of your pics as being successfully uploaded. If after 24 hours your set status appears to be incomplete please submit a help request.
Here are some tips for uploading your set for review:
- All images must be sent in chronological order. All images must be sent as .jpgs and renamed your current SG name or your desired SG name followed by a number.
For example:
Jane01.jpg
Jane02.jpg
Jane03.jpg
Jane04.jpg
Jane99.jpg
- Please make sure there aren't weird characters in your file names or the set will not upload correctly.
- Make sure that your file suffix is .jpg and not .jpeg or .JPG. Do not send us .raw or .cr2 files, the set will not go through.
- The .zip file should be under 100mb in size. If its still too large, you should resize the pictures so they are 1500-2000 pixels on the longest side and save them at the highest quality. If there are 75-100 pics around 1mb in size, the set should go through no problem.
- Once you have the photoset ready to send in you will need to save your set as a .zip file.
- If you are on a Mac, you can right click (ctrl+click) on the folder and select "Make Archive of [folder name]".
- If you are on a PC, you will need a program like WinZip to create your .zip file. To download applications that allow you to compress your files, please go to http://www.download.com and search for .zip. Newer versions of Windows allow you to right-click the files/folder and zip everything up just like the Mac instructions. Please do not email for technical help.
- If you're having problems uploading your set, try using a different computer, browser, connection, or at a different time. If nothing is working, you can submit a help request in the box on your applicant page and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
- When your set is done uploading, the uploader will show 100% and a green checkmark. After this, you should leave your browser window open for another several minutes while the upload is completing. When everything is done, the page will refresh and a message will say the set was uploaded successfully. When in doubt, just be patient and let the uploader do it's thing.
- You can check in the "manage sets" tab to see if it's gone through once you're done uploading. Make sure all the photos are there - this can take a couple hours, so if it does not display the correct number at first just wait a little bit and it will probably fix itself.
- If you are running the latest version of Safari or Firefox and the file does not show up in the upload box when you select it, you probably need to install the latest version of Flash. You can download it for free here and once it is installed, you should be able to upload your set.
- Sometimes when uploading, your browser might pop up with a message saying that the upload might be timing out and asks if you want to cancel. Just say no so it will keep going, and the percentage of completeness should keep going up.
- If the uploader just isn't working out for you, you can mail in your set on cd. Please write on the cd your first and last name and email address, and you can send it in the mail. This may take us more time to process than the uploading feature, so please make sure that the online method won't work for you before mailing in. Make sure the cd is burned correctly and mailed protectively to:
Attn: Suicide Girls Model Coordinator
5482 Wilshire Blvd #1925
Los Angeles, CA 90036.
7.21 What happens if I submit my set for member review?
When you submit your set for member review, your set will be posted on the site in the member review section - if you are not yet a SuicideGirl, you will be given a one year free Hopeful account. Your set will be posted exactly as you uploaded it, so if you need to rotate your pictures so they are facing the right way, you should do that before you upload the set.
After you submit your set for member review, members and SGs will be able to comment on your set and it will be eligible for "set of the day" and our monthly prizes.
Sets are chosen from this section that get really great feedback from SGs, photographers and members.
If your set is picked to go live on the front page, as "set of the day" or a monthly prize winner you will become a SuicideGirl and both you and your photographer will be paid!
Before your set goes up on the site for member review, it will be reviewed to make sure it meets the minimum photographic requirements, so there may be a short wait between the time you upload a set and it is posted on your page.
7.22 What is the member review section?
You can see all the sets that are up for member review here section.
Sets are chosen from this section to put on the front page as "set of the day" or a monthly prize winner based on the feedback from our members, SuicideGirls and photographers. If a set is chosen from the member review section to go live as "set of the day" or a monthly prize winner both the photographer and the model will be paid.
7.23 Where can I see the set?
The set will be featured in the member review section. It will also appear on your page under the "pics" tab with an icon that says either "Hopeful" or "SG".
It can take up to 48 hours for your set to post, so if you don't see it right when you get the email, just be patient and it will be posted soon.
7.24 How long is my set eligible to win set of the day or one of the monthly $1000 prizes?
Your set is eligible to win set of the day or any of the monthly prizes for as long as it is up in the hopefuls pics section. Sometimes we recycle monthly prizes - if your set does not win a particular month prize, you are still eligible to win when that theme comes up again in a few months.
7.25 When I submit a set to member review can I delete it?
If the set is not chosen as set of the day or a monthly prize winner, it can be deleted after 90 days.
We require the set to be up for 90 days so that we can give the community a fair chance of picking it as a winner. Many girls feel discouraged when their sets don't win a prize immediately and we believe the system will take time to select the best of the best. If you haven't been paid in 90 days then you are free to remove the set from the site.
7.26 When do I get paid?
If your set picked for set of the day from member review, you will get an email that says your set has been accepted. After you receive this email, you should expect to receive a check within about 5 weeks. We pay $500 per set accepted and posted on the front page.
7.27 Who owns the photos? Why can you use my image if I'm not getting paid?
SuicideGirls only owns the photos if you are paid - for instance, if your set wins set of the day you are paid $500 or if your set wins one of our monthly $1000 creative prizes. You will never give up ownership of your likeness without being paid a minimum of $500.
However, if your set does not win a prize or get chosen as set of the day, you can keep the images up on your profile. SG just hosts them under our terms of service for you and we do not make any claims of ownership of these images.
7.28 So does this mean I have to let everyone see my pics before I get paid?
No. If you select ()staff review when you submit your pictures, no one but staff will see them unless it is chosen as set of the day and you are paid $500.
7.29 How often can I submit new sets for member review?
You can submit new sets to the member review area as often as you like, and they are eligible to be chosen as sets of the day and to win the monthly creative prizes for as long as you choose to leave them in the member section.
8.30 What happens if I submit my set for staff review?
When you submit your set for staff review, the images are not accessible to anyone other than staff.
Staff will review the set:
If we are able to use your set on the site, your set will be put in line to go up as the "Set of the Day" and you will be paid the $500.
If we are not able to use your set, you will be given the option to post your set on the site for member review in exchange for a one year membership to the site. If you post your set for member review, it is still eligible to be chosen for set of the day and any of our monthly prizes.
8.31 How long until I hear back? What happens after staff reviews my set?
As long as we have both your government issued IDs and current model release on file, the average wait is about two to four weeks to hear back about your set, but it can take up to 6-8 weeks to hear back.
You can log in to your model application and it will let you know the status of your set - once it has been reviewed, you will always get an email letting you know the next steps.
8.32 If my set is accepted through staff review it will go up on the site. What happens if it is not accepted?
If your set is not chosen for set of the day, you can choose to then post your set for member review. If you submit your set for ()both staff review and member review, your set will be automatically posted for member review if it is not chosen for set of the day during the staff review.
8.33 When do I get paid?
If your set is accepted through staff review, you will get an email that says your set has been accepted. After you receive this email, you should expect to receive a check within about 5 weeks. We pay $500 per set accepted and posted on the front page.
8.34 How often can I submit new sets for staff review?
We ask that you only submit one set at a time for staff review. Once we have reviewed your set you will get an email letting you know the next steps, so please wait until you have heard back from us before sending in a new set.
9.35 When do I become a SuicideGirl?
If your set is chosen as set of the day or wins one of the monthly $1000 prizes, it will go up on the front page and you become a SuicideGirl. SuicideGirls post in pink on the boards and in groups.
9.36 What does it mean to be a hopeful?
A hopeful is any model on the site who is publishing pictures in the member review section but has not won set of the day or one of our monthly creative prizes.
9.37 How do you choose which sets to put up on the front page?
Sets are chosen first and foremost for their ability to showcase your personality. They should be sexy, funny, unique and most importantly show the viewer what you are about.
Sets up for member review are not always chosen by their comment count. For instance, one set may get 500 "I loved it!" comments, while another set may get fewer, but more detailed and passionate responses from other models and photographers, and we may accept that one - quality over quantity is what we are really looking for.
9.38 What do you mean when you say "minimum photographic requirements"?
While we have created this member review avenue for models in the hopes of being more inclusive to a wider variety of different kinds of beauty, we will do an initial screening of images submitted to the member review area to ensure all photos in the hopefuls section match the general style and format of what we think our audience is interested in. Unfortunately this means not all images and models will make it to the member review area, however you are free to resubmit your images for another chance of inclusion in member review as often as you'd like.
9.39 I want to tell my friends about my set!!
Awesome!! You are welcome to post a link to your set in the SG Hopefuls group and in your journal, post about it on your myspace or send an email to your friends.
However on SuicideGirls, we ask that you do not send people messages, post comments on everyones journal asking them to comment on your set or start multiple threads all over the site about it. Thousands of people look at the hopefuls pics section every day, it is well publicized. Posting tons of links on SuicideGirls will annoy more people than its worth and negatively affect your set, and that would really suck, so just don't do it.
10.40 Who are the SG Staff Photographers?
A listing of staff photographers can be found on this page: http://suicidegirls.com/about/.
If there is one nearby, they should appear on your application page on the right side under "Looking for a Photographer?". If it's blank, it probably means we don't have an official photographer close to you - we are always looking for photographers, but we might not have one in your area at this time.
SG PHOTOGRAPHER FAQ
10.41 What should I do if I can't work with a staff photographer?
If you have an amazing photographer you are interested in working with, please have them contact: photographycoordinator@suicidegirls.com to receive the proper paperwork and details on being paid. YOU SHOULD NOT PAY A NON STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER TO SHOOT YOUR SET. Please have your photographer contact our photography coordinator and we can arrange payment, you should never have to pay someone to take your pictures.
Most girls will not have a professional photographer at their disposal, which is completely understandable, you may use a trusted friend who knows their way around a camera.
You can also try finding a photographer on Model Mayhem, MySpace, or on the SG site (try the SG Photographer Hopefuls group!). This brings up some very simple, common sense things that you should all do to ensure your safety and comfort when working with new photographers.
1. Check references, and portfolio. If you do not like someones work or can not find any references for them, work with someone else. E-mail the person that you are interested in working with and let them know exactly what you are looking for in a photographer before meeting with them. Send a few of your favorite SG photos as examples of style. Figure out the theme that you want to convey in your set and have a clear cut idea of what you want your set to reflect, make sure the photographer can carry this out. This is your set to share your personality with the site. Come prepared, practice posing and facial expressions in the mirror. A good photographer is very helpful in getting a set accepted but if you aren't prepared there is not a whole lot they can do.
2. Have an initial meeting in a public place. This way you can figure out if this person is going to creep you out, or if you will feel comfortable taking your clothes off in front of them. If you get a weird feeling ask someone else to shoot the set for you. If you are not comfortable with a photographer you will not look comfortable in your set and it will not come out well and will probably not be accepted no matter how talented the photographer is with the camera.
3. Bring a friend to your shoot. Safety first. Even if the person sits in the other room it is better to have someone that you know and trust around just in case.
4. Any asshat with a camera can claim to be a nude photographer, check references and portfolio. I get so many creepy people applying to be official SG photographers everyday it boggles the mind. Everything from photographers claiming that a sexual relationship allows them to take better pics to guys who are just obsessed with feet. We do our best to ensure the professionalism of everyone that we work with. Anyone that we recommend directly will be completely legit, but that doesn't mean that all of the people volunteering to take pics in the Good Photographers thread, or the person you meet at a member gathering or on a model resource site is going to be. Use common sense and always err on the side of caution.
NO OFFICIAL SG PHOTOGRAPHER WILL EVER ADVERTISE OR E-MAIL YOU SOLICITING THEIR SERVICES. WE DO NOT HAVE RECRUITERS. These are internet pervs looking to see naked pics of you, please do not respond to them in any way.
We now have models and photographers from all over the world. It is hard for me to know about all of the creepy people or the talented ones out there. Use common sense and hopefully you will have a great experience. We are working on a new photographer system to help recommend people, but in the meantime use your best judgment and work with people who you like and are comfortable with.
SG PHOTOGRAPHER FAQ
10.42 Can I shoot my own set or have a friend do it for me?
Totally! There are lots of girls on the site who shoot their own sets. Make sure to read over the FAQ section "Your model application: photoset" and look at the sample sets in your applicant area to get a good idea of what we are looking for in a set.
SG PHOTOGRAPHER FAQ
10.43 What is the photo release? Where do I get it, and how do I fill it out?
The photography release is a form you'll need to download from us and have your photographer fill out.
It will need to filled out by whomever shot your set, even if it was a friend or yourself. The first page has information on your set, and the second page needs to have the "photographer" section filled out and signed.
If your set was shot by an SG staff photographer, you won't need to have a photo release filled out, we already have all their releases on file.
The Model Forms Package can be downloaded here. Inside are the FAQ, the model release, the photography release, and the W9
The title on the top of the photography release form is "Intellectual Property Assignment".
SG PHOTOGRAPHER FAQ
10.44 How much do I have to pay to get a set shot by a staff photographer?
Since it is not guaranteed your set will be accepted, we currently allow our staff photographers to ask for payment for their time. You can get in touch with the photographer you would like to work with and they can let you know their rates. This is their own rate for their time (shooting + prepping the set), this money does not go to SG, this is a private agreement between you and the photographer.
If your set is accepted, you and the staff photographers will each be paid $500 by SG, and the photographer may reimburse you the initial fee. It is up to you if you choose to pay them to shoot your set.
10.45 Who owns the pictures if my set is not accepted?
The photographer owns the photos if the set is not accepted.
11.46 What information should I not reveal on the site, in my journal or on the boards?
Please do not reveal, under any circumstances, any personal information that could facilitate members locating you or your real name. Do not give away your phone number, real full name, address, neighborhood, favorite hang outs, school or workplace. We ask the girls to not disclose any information about where SuicideGirls is located, the people who work here or any of the other SuicideGirls. Try to keep a level of mystery about your personal life and use your best judgment.
11.47 Some member is being an asshole to me, what should I do?
If any member is seriously harming your experience on the site making your experience unbearable, you may flag a particular comment by clicking the little red flag in the upper right hand corner of the post or message. This will pop up a window where you can enter a detailed description of the problem and links to any offending comments so staff can review the problem and, if appropriate, ban the member from the site. If a member is a little annoying please just use the ignore feature on the site and avoid them.
11.48 Can I accept cash or gifts from members? Can I ask for them?
You may not accept any cash from members. You may not solicit members for money, may not request money or gifts from them, and may not plead for donations of any sort on the site. Any violation of this rule, no matter how minor, will lead to the immediate removal of you from the site.
You may post the link to your wishlist in your profile and if members are moved to then they may purchase presents from it but you may not mention your wishlist in every journal entry and beg for presents.
11.49 I hear SuicideGirls get recognized in public a lot, will this happen to me?
It might. Some SuicideGirls have told us they get recognized and approached in public quite often, others never have. If you cherish your privacy this is probably not the best place for you to model.
12.50 If my employer / family / friend finds out, will you take down my pictures?
No. You may ask for your profile and pictures to be archived at any time, which removes them from high traffic areas of the site, but they will remain accessible to members. If you are frightened of someone finding out, please do not apply to be a SuicideGirl. It's hard to undo being naked on the internet.
12.51 My friend wants to be an SG too! Can we both be in the set?
You should be the only one in your first set. Once you both become SuicideGirls and each have a set live on the site, then you are welcome to send us a two girl set.
12.52 I'm bigger. I'm not white. Will you accept me as a SuicideGirl?
We do not discriminate based on weight or race, and are currently looking for a more diverse group of girls to join our ranks, so please apply.
12.53 Why can't I see other sets on the site or start a blog, etc.?
This is because the model applicant area is separate from the site membership.
You can login and manage your model application here: http://suicidegirls.com/models/
This does not give you access to the membership features of the site, it only gives you the chance to submit the items we need to consider your set to become a SuicideGirl. Once you have a set accepted, you'll become a SuicideGirl and get a membership to the website where you can participate in all of the features.
If you want a membership now so you can browse groups and other sets, you can purchase one here: http://suicidegirls.com/join/
12.54 Who can see my model application page?
The model applicant area is visible to SG staff only. The public cannot access any of your personal information, photos, IDs, or forms. We keep all of your information safely stored and do not share it with any other companies.
12.55 What's the deal with SG hook-ups, parties and events?
If you become a SuicideGirl, you will be notified of events in your area. You can choose to attend any events you like, however SG will not pay for any travel or accommodations unless specifically noted, and you are not required to attend any events if you choose not to.
As a SuicideGirl you will get free admission to any official SuicideGirls events you choose to attend. If you would like to perform at an event, you simply reply to the email we send out to all the SuicideGirls before a big event. If you choose to go to an unofficial member-organized hook-up in your area, you must be responsible for your own safety, and should bring a friend you trust with you. You are not required to participate in SG events and can choose to be unavailable if you wish.
12.56 Can I model for other sites/projects?
We just ask that you do not model for other websites that are pay sites featuring nude modeling and tattooed/pierced girls. Working with other photographers is definitely okay - lots of other SGs have other modeling careers :) If you have questions about a particular site, you are more than welcome to send a help request through your application page and let us know what site it is. As far as modeling for other sites, you can check out http://www.aminamunster.net and http://www.twwly.com to see what kinds of things are okay outside of SG.
12.57 Who do I contact about different things?
If you need technical support or membership help for the site, please fill out a help request form.
If you have any questions related to your experience as a SuicideGirl, you should go to your model page and submit your question through the help box there, and we will get back to you as soon as we can, usually within a few days.
If you need to reach any other staff, check the about us page. Please check the site and FAQ for help before emailing anyone. The Model Coordinator and Model Assistant will be your primary contacts during your time as a model.
12.58 Can I change my profile picture?
You can request a change to your profile pic by uploading a pic that you'd prefer. Missy will review your pic and if she likes it, she will approve it.
HOW TO: First go to your home page and under "Manage my stuff" select "Profile" to upload a picture. The guidelines are there to help you, so please read and comprehend them before attempting to upload your pics. Please do not upload pictures that do not meet the guidelines - it just wastes our time.
WHAT SHOULD I AVOID
Here's some tips on what to avoid doing with your photo:
Bad image quality - it must be the best possible quality.
SG logo in pic - we already know what site you're on! Crop it out, or use the original pic before the logo was put on.
Image looks squashed - crop to get the right dimensions, don't resize. If you don't know how to make a pic that doesn't look squished, leave it to the experts! Ask a friend to make it for you, or just send an email to Missy to request staff-made replacement pics.
Obscured face - we don't want to see your hair, your hat, or your hands. We want to see your FACE. Please don't use pics that obscure your face. You're beautiful, that's why you're on the site - so show it off!
Sideways pics - in the original pic we can tell that you are lying seductively on your side. In the cropped version, it just looks like it's up the wrong way. Unless it's clear what's going on in the picture, try to stick to being upright.
Camgirl shots - the tired "from above" shot that camgirls often use because they're insecure that they have no chin definition. Sometimes these work. Most times it makes you wrinkle your forehead and look like an alien. Best to go with a shot that shows your face the way it really is.
Too close or too far away. We don't need to see what's in your pores, but we don't need to see your navel either. Go for your head and shoulders.
THEN WHAT?
Once you have uploaded your requested new profile pic, it will not show up on your page but it will wait for Missy to cast her eye over it. If she approves it, you'll notice your new profile pic. You won't be notified when your pic is approved or rejected - so please don't email anyone on staff about it. Missy is extremely busy and will get to your picture when she has time.
12.59 What does "unqueued" and "queued" mean?
"Unqueued" means that your set is accepted but we have not yet picked a date for it to go live. Once your set says "queued" underneath the icon, that means we have set a date for it to go up ("go live") on the front page.
Once your set shows up as Queued, it could be anywhere from a day to several months before your set goes live. Sometimes the queue is short, and sometimes a whole batch are queued at once. Sometimes the queue is even cleared and re-organised, so your Queued set may go back to Unqueued.
12.60 My set is accepted, so when do my pictures go up?
Some people wait less than a month, and some people wait a year. There really isn't a formula for when we queue sets - sometimes the queue is really short and sometimes a whole batch of sets are queued at once, but aside from that there is not a date we can tell you your set will be queued or live. Update your blog and become an active part of the site and get to know your way around and have some fun while you're waiting, get to know the community!
12.61 What kind of names can I choose for my SuicideGirls name?
You'll be picking a name that will be your SG name on the site, also referred to as "model name" or "alias". You'll be providing your preferences in the model release as backup, but we check your selection on your profile first.
Before you pick a name, please ensure that it is not already in use by a SuicideGirl. Try to pick a name that is not too hard to pronounce or too abstract.
Use english letters only. Do not use non-english characters (ό, η, θ), numbers, spaces, hyphens (-), underscores (_), or any other symbols like ^, *, ~, ^. Your name should be capitalised, e.g. Fractal, Wendy, LillithVain, etc.
WRONG: Mary Ann (space)
RIGHT: MaryAnn
WRONG: ~Bunny~ (use of ~)
RIGHT: Bunny
WRONG: michelle (not capitalised)
RIGHT: Michelle
WRONG: FaerieGlitterCat (too abstract)
RIGHT: Glitter, or Faerie, or Cat
WRONG: Schzmyyfhqwhgads (too hard to spell and pronounce)
RIGHT: Scythe
Because of the high volume of both members and girls, not all names are available. Names along the lines of 'Sarah', 'Jessica', 'Rachel', are taken nine out of ten times (but include it in your list... you never know!) While this is true, we are not AOL! Please remember this is not a screen name. This is an actual name that people can associate you with. Names that are too outrageous and are not considered "real" will not be accepted. Please read that over...if you send us names that are not real, or names that are traditionally used for online purposes only...we will not accept them!!
I recommend looking online at those baby name lists even - check out http://www.babynames.com.
12.62 What is a set intro? Where do I put my set intro?
When your set is unqueued on your page, you should have a little notepad and pencil icon on the bottom right hand corner, like this:

When you click on the icon, it will pop up another window where you can put in your photographer's name and url (member page, etc) and write a little something about the set, and you can upload an audio intro as well:

When you're done, click "submit" and the page will then say your changes have been saved and you are all done!! You don't need to let anyone know that you wrote your set intro - when we go to queue your set, the box will pop up with your intro in it. Please note if you uploaded an audio intro, it won't show that you uploaded a file when the page refreshs.
12.63 Can I use pictures from my set for my portfolio?
If your set has been accepted and is unqueued (not live on the site yet), you may use two non-nude photos for your portfolio and on sites like Myspace. Once your set is LIVE on the site you may use any non-nude photos from it in your portfolio, myspace, etc. They must contain the SG logo and copyright.
12.64 I don't like this picture in my set, can you take it down?
Please only submit to us pictures that you want up on the site. We will try to comply with your wishes for removing pictures after they have been published, but we can't make any promises as to how long it will take us. If you have an issue with photos in your posted set, please contact model help.
12.65 Can I change my SG Name?
Unfortunately it is not possible to change your name once you become a SuicideGirl, so make sure you like the name you choose!
If you are not yet a SuicideGirl and would like to change your preferred names, you can log in to your model application and click "update profile" and change your preferred model names.
If you are a Hopeful with a public profile on the site, you can go to your main Profile Page. In the upper right hand corner of your profile blurb there is a button that says 'EDIT' - click on it to change your alias and profile layout. If the name you want to change it to is taken, try a different spelling or add an underscore.
