VANESSA SAYS: “
...the expensive delicate ship that must have seen
Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky
Had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on.
This set was shot in White Sands, New Mexico. The exact location where the Anthea scenes in "The Man Who Fell To Earth" were filmed.
Walter Tevis' book and the subsequent Nicolas Roeg film starring David Bowie have inspired me for many years.
As said by critic Vincent Canby, "it can be seen as the story of a very hip, space age Passion-about a savior who comes to Earth not to save us but his own people, and who is, in effect, crucified and buried."
My version of this takes a slightly more sinister turn as I'm not quite as innocent and good intentioned as T.J. Newton.
I'm heading into this new world called Earth to first blend in...then to take over.

Many thanks and much love to Kate of Cicatrix Designs for the costume, the jokes on the 3 hour drive and for sitting in the car with me and laughing hysterically at the Emergency Alert System warnings playing on the radio ("if you are in an open space, lay in a ditch and put your arms over your head...")
And to Dave for the amazing photos, amazing photoshop. for sharing my love of this movie and book and working so hard to make this set come to life despite the fact there was a tornado 10 miles away and we were close to being caught in the middle of it at any moment.
Also, hello to the 2 cute and bashful Japanese guys who were watching us shoot this set on the sand dune across from ours and would smile and wave when I looked over at them.
(PS-This is the farewell set for my nipple rings. They no longer exist and this was their last hurrah.)”
RIGEL SAYS: “Don't forget to check out Vanessa's awesome Q&A videos - all 4 of them!”
