I am so pissed at myself right now. I went around today determined to purchase my new digital camera. One of the places I stopped was Best Buy to check on the price and see if maybe they had a CF card on sale. They were all out of the Digital Rebels which is a 6.3 Mp camera but they did have the new Sony DSC-F828 (8 Mp) which I took a look at to see if it had the features I needed. It had all the functions I wanted with the exception of interchangeable lenses, which I don't really need for my application but would have been nice for future flexibility. They had one of the Sony's someone had returned, I doubt that it was ever used, it still had the tag hanging off of it. They were going to give me $100 off the price on it.
Now, to make a long story even more drawn out I went ahead and bought the Sony along with a 256 meg. memory stick. It's a very awesome camera, it takes phenomenal pictures, it has several functions the Canon did not have, it has a real good feel to it, and I really like it.
Now for the pissed at myself portion of today's program... One of the most important functions I needed was continuous frame rate. I looked over the manual and saw that it had a 7 shot burst mode, which would work for me. Unfortunately, what I didn't notice was that the burst mode only worked in a VGA resolution! That's what, like, 640x480 or something? Fuck me, that's not good enough! I play around with it to see what the frame rate is and I find out that at any decent resolution it take 5-7 seconds to write to the damn memory stick. Fuck me again. There's no way I can skydive with this camera, generally speaking, I've got a working time of about 30 seconds on a normal tandem jump. I need to snap off more than 2-3 pictures in that time.
But wait, there's one more kick to the balls. Because I bought it at Best Buy, they have a 15% restocking fee if I return it. So basically it's going to cost me $150 just to take it back!
Aaaaaaagh!! It's my own damn fault. I got antsy to get my camera and impulse bought a good deal that I hadn't researched well. Damn that sucks because other than that one thing it's a beautiful camera that would be perfect for me.
