Introduction
STYX was the goddess of the underworld River Styx. She was a firm ally of Zeus in the Titan Wars. Zeus rewarded her by making her streams the agent of the binding oath of the gods.When one of the gods was to take an oath by Styx, the god, while taking the oath, poured out the water. Should they happen to break an oath, they had to experience a severe penalty: they were forced to drink from the river and had to suffer one year without ambrosia and nectar, the food of the gods; after that time, it was prohibited to the oath-breaker for further nine years to attend the meetings of the other deities.
