The biggest mistake Van Halen ever made was firing David Lee Roth. Alternately, the biggest mistake CBS Radio ever made was hiring David Lee Roth. His radio show was so bad, it offends me to think about it. My favorite part of his show was when he would make a joke and turn some bad music all the way up. Then he would turn it down and you'd hear his crew laughing and then he would turn it up again. It was putrid, awful disgraceful radio.

But Roth is the type of guy who will get right back on the horse after it kicks him off, steps on his head and takes a dump on his chest. This time, he's doing this by going back to doing something he does well; performing live. Diamond Dave wasted no time in announcing some tour dates after his radio career was leveled by CBS only a month ago. The 30 day tour will kick off at the end of June, but Dave's still seeing red about being shitcanned.

"I was booted, tossed, and it's going to cost somebody," Roth snarled on his last show, intimating that he'll go after CBS Radio for the full compensation due from his reported $4 million contract.

It's going to cost all of us who will most likely have to put up with another David Lee Roth studio album. It will also cost those who go to the shows and have to listen to in-between-song banter about how shitty CBS is. Hopefully Dave finds peace out on the road. Here are the only three dates confirmed thusfar.

Jun. 28 - House of Blues - Chicago, IL

Jun. 30 - Summer Celebration - Muskegon, MI

Jul. 01 - Summerfest - Milwaukee, WI

And the fact that it was the same joke over and over again only made it worse.

It was truely some of the worst radio i've ever heard.

i like his solo song "hina" off skyscraper.
i was forced to go see him in concert by my then Poison obsessed girlfriend (they opened for Roth on the skyscraper tour)
if i remember correctly, Steve Vai played guitar on that tour and it was actually pretty good.

what can i say? it was the 80's, and my girlfriend wouldnt go see Mercyful Fate with me.

wink

Fuck that. Alex VH is a master on the drums. Their Best album is their first, VH I. "Ain't talkin' 'bout Love" is one of the great hard rock songs of all-time

OMG, you're totally right! They completely faded into obscurity after that!

Van Hagar might have sucked, but it made them all very, very rich. I doubt they consider a it a mistake at all.

do you ever get sick of trying _so_ hard to be 'right' all the time? is it so challenging to read something you don't agree with and not feel so compelled to be grandiose?
