i think he is a complete and utter douche who needs to stop buying into his own hype. He has only a few good songs, yet he releases 400 albums a year because he likes being the "prolific nouveau country "Dylan-esque" rocker."

I wanted to like him for a long time, but I just got over it. And I'm not taking shots at anyone for liking him, it's totally a matter of taste. In this case a bad one, in mouth.

I couldn't have said it better my self if I had blasted out a hole in your back and worked my way up to your mouth with my hand to make a puppet out of you Fridge.

Expect to add anyone who tries to get in fist fights with audience hecklers probably shouldn't be allowed to attempt to hold live concerts, what a fucking cry baby.

He can be an asshole but I think he makes good music. Many makers of good music are assholes and I can usually forgive assholery for good music.

I always make sure to have Rock N Roll in the car...that album is good on the road. And I really like the opening of "Wish You Were Here."

eh. he's notorious for his antics nearly as much as his music. personally, i like some of his work, a LOT. then again the vast majority of his work is slop.

but he is from my hometown, Raleigh NC and he has lived in house's where i have lived. he famously stated he would never play a show here again but then surprised everybody with an impromptu wiskeytown show at a local pub. a tad of a contradiction, yep

i've been on a pretty big ryan adams tangent lately, his cover of "wonderwall" is pretty mindblowing. he adds this rad element of spookiness (if that's even a word).

He is a very talented dude and extremely entertaining as a performer. I would suggest that he needs and editor. It is not necessary to record and release every idea that crosses your mind.

Boy is this guy ever creating waves in the Deadhead community. A fan site discussion was even shut down from a former band member (Grateful Dead) because of over the top threats/insults directed at Ryan. It spilled over to Ryans site. Check out live music archive Ryan Adams and Phil Lesh and Friends gives a different perspective to R.A fans.
p.s. Magnolia Mountain is a beutiful tune smile

When he's good, he's one of the best songwriters in America (see: much of Heartbreaker, half of Gold, a bit of Love Is Hell and a smidgen of Jacksonville City Nights and Cold Roses). When he's bad, he's an absolute fucking abomination (see: all of Rock N Roll, a fair bit of 29, a fair bit of, a decent cop of the largely boring Jacksonville City Nights).

If he started getting into the idea of quality control, he'd already have released one of the finest albums of the past 20 years. As it is, he's got a couple of great albums and a bunch of pretty mediocre ones.

He's like an alt-country version of Prince in that regard. He really could benefit from working with a good producer.

While people are mixed about him, I love him. There is going to obviously be songs that one loves or doesnt (with his ridiculous amount of them) But 'dont ask her for the water', 'come pick me up', 'call me on your way home' are truly amazing songs (my opinion). and despite quite abit of confrontation I found Jacksonville City Nights amazing, his voice on the entire album blows me away. And though I was hesitant at first 29 has grown on me (again with the voice and piano being key). 'The Sadness' on the album his awesone and very 'story like' and fun to sing along with. I dont know, but I like him and have rambbled enough.

Diehard? No. But I am a fan of sorts. I'll never tell someone to stop being prolific (Who am I to question how people work?), but when he's good, he's really good. And you have to think that if he put a bit more time into some of his songs he'd be unbelievable. But he's given me songs like "Come Pick Me Up" and "Sylvia Plath," so for that I am indebted.

You're a listener with an opinion, and that counts. Personally, I think Ryan Adam's art would be greatly improved by releasing a lot less. Like, one album a year max. I'm not against people being prolific if there's still some sort of quality control in place.

I fucking LOVE "Come Pick Me Up". Though it always frustrates me that whenever I tell people I like Ryan Adams they always seem to hear "Bryan"

I loved his soundtracks for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Don Juan de Marco. ooo aaa

No but seriously.... he's all right, but mostly I agree with Fridge. Dude practically releases more albums than Cursive and Bright Eyes combined, and at least the Saddle Creek pantheon never really lets their curmudgeonly assholery get in the way of their craft.

Thankyou.....Ryan Adams used to have a crush on me. He came into my store every day for awhile and would tell my business partner how much he liked me or whatever. Barely spoke a word to me. Wuss. I also cut his hair right before he broke out and he -no lie- told me he was "huge in Europe". Oh. my. Lameness. Ever heard the Finger? His pseudo punk record with Jesse Malin? Garbagio....

Ah yes, the Finger. They released an album called "We are Fuck you". Adams played drums in the band he never sang.

Thing is he sells more records in Europe than he does in the U.S. I think he has a core group of fans in the U.S that'll support him no matter what he does (myself included) and then you have the people who just fucking hate him. Usually, there's no middle ground.
