this album came out almost six years ago and it still has the power to summon every emotion i'm capable of feeling (which isn't many, apparently... but that's another shitty thread topic). anyway, i just wanted to take a moment and let everyone know that i am still human. this record proves it.

of course, i must admit that i haven't really been part of any large musical loop for awhile. i usually turn the radio off. i've been listening to the same albums for the last few years with the exception of a few here and there (of montreal, the shins, aqualung, and so on...). i just haven't cared– which is rare since i'm a musician and claim to be worldly and all that shit. maybe this is more of a journal topic.

on rare occassions when i actually venture outside of the house and force some sort of social interaction, i hear of bands that i didn't know existed. and some of their names (deer hoof?) make me... like... you're testing my knowledge of music by making shit up, right?

anyway, i just wanted to start a thread outside the silliness forum and share some of my actual opinions on a band that "does it" for me. so here's to you, a perfect circle.

I'm probably as much out of the loop as you are. I never listen to the radio anymore. I did spend a little time checking out the music clips on various myspace profiles. I was curious what some of the bands people have listed as their favorites on here sounded like. I had a listen to Coheed and Cambria today. They sounded nothing like what I expected, I always thought they'd be emo/screamo .. and they didn't sound like that to me.

I can't think of anything to recommend really.

The kind of music i listen to isn't exactly life changing. But I do love the Black Crowes.

the first time i had ever heard of a perfect circle is when i went to see NIN on the Fragility tour and they were opening for them...at first we were like "hey, isn't this keenen's side project?" and then we were like "HOLY SHIT!" but the album wasn't out yet so we had to wait in torment for months. biggrin

long story now turned short: i love them.

I saw APC at Coachella before Noms came out. They blew me away when they played "Diary of a Lovesong." Loved 'em then and still do.

if you love a perfect circle, you should check out the underworld soundtrack - Maynard's other side project is on there, and Danny Lohner, who is a member of a perfect circle (and does all of their remixes as Renholder) scored the movie

I saw them on their last tour here, for 13th step. It was a really good show. I was surprised that it wasn't as loud as most shows at this particular venue though. They may have brought their own PA by the looks of things ... because I'd never seen a band use the kind they were using.

I remember the first time I heard the song "I'm not working" by the Manic Street Preachers...my ex had left her room and the song came on, I was seriously floored. When she came back to the room I told her to burn the cd for me immediately tongue

To this day no song stirs me up as much and I don't even know why *shrug*
It's actually about the bassist's fear of flying

Not to be nitpicky... but actually, APC is Billy Howerdale's side project. Maynard's just the front man. Hence Jimmy Iha now being in the band and other rotating roster members. I wouldn't expect most people to know that though.

I saw themright after 13th step came out at the Palace in Detroit, and it definitely ranks not only as one of my top five best, but also top five favorite concert experiences. (yes I do distinguish between the two. God I need a life.)

really a great album, rose is one of my favorite songs of all time. i was lucky to see them live 3 times. once opening for nin, then on their tour for mer de noms and on the tour for thirteenth step also. i'd have to say the second show that i saw at eastern michigan university was my favorite, it was a smaller venue and i was right on the rail for the show so it was quite a memorable experience.

i always think thirteenth step is a better album but mer de noms has more stand out tracks if that makes sense.

A Perfect Circle rocks.

As for a life changing song, I would have to say Audioslave's "Shadow On The Sun." I've probably heard the song over 300 times and still can't get enough of it. There is just something very genuine and painful about it, it reminds me a lot of A Perfect Circle's "3 Libras."

i didn't like Thirteenth Step as much, but I think I preferred the gentler aspects that Paz brought in with the violin... One of the only bands where I thought that instrument actually belonged.
