MUSIC: National Geographic On Assignment: Nikki Sixx

Thailand is a beautiful country with an ancient and unique culture, fascinating art, and majestic Buddhist ruins; oh yes -- and heroin, rampant venereal disease, and a sex industry so widespread it's practically a pillar of the nation's economy. So who better to explore this often-overlooked far-east nation than an expert on at least some of the above: amateur photographer and Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx.

Sixx is a keen landscape and portrait photographer and National Geographic bosses are so impressed with his work they've set him an assignment.

He says, "I tried to go (to Thailand) in '87, and our management wouldn't let me. They said, 'Bottom line, Nikki - you'll die."
