so maybe this is a rant of sorts, but here it goes.
dear avenged sevenfold,
you are to this decade what black train jack was to the 90's, a second rate opening act. you are not hard, you are higher on the emo scale than my chemical romance.(they at least embrace the emo within).you are closet emo,and even suck at that
jim

i recently came across one of their cds by way of a friend, i was thoroughly unimpressed. seriously,
is anyone else disturbed that this is what major labels are selling people as punk/metal
"City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold. ... Shattering preconceptions of punk and metal,
Avenged Sevenfold blazes a bold new path with its debut major label album, ..."

dear sg members,
if you wish, list other bands that suckass, if you have had as similar experience.

Audioslave...do I really need a reason other than the fact that they arent edgy or raw?

They are just a normal hard rock band with a great singer and an innovative guitar player, who both said to themselves "We dont really need to go anywhere else, lets just stay here."

Tomahawk

EDITED TO ADD: I just did a google search and there is actually 2 Tomahawks one is southern country and the other has Michael Patton from Faith No More as the front man. I meant the one with Michael Patton, but I don't like country let alone SOUTHERN country so I'm sure they prolly suck too.

i think avenged sevenfold like their appetite for destruction-era gnr a little too much to be "emo". and they're actually pretty good. so i would lean towards you being mistaken on this one.

If we're talking about overrated '90s hardcore bands, I humbly submit Texas Is the Reason. I never would've given them a thought after 1997 or so, but I just threw away through a stack of old zines and came across a metric ton of ads for that godawful record.

I don't know who Avenged Sevenfold is.
Anyhow, I rememer a few years ago Kid Rock was playing at Warped Tour. The guy sucked so bad that he literally got booed offstage after being constantly pelted with water bottles for the whole time he was playing( which was like 10 minutes).
So, yeah, Kid Rock sucks. But I'm pretty sure everybody here knows that.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there. Texas is the Reason owned.

Avenged Sevenfold sucks, though. As do most bands around right now that play on either the harder or the softer aspects and take the genre of emo and completely blow it out their ear.

liking GNR is not some kind of magical forcefield against being emo. who DOESN'T like appetite-era GNR?

most shit on the radio lately seems to fall into this catagory for me. it's been a long time since i've heard anything on a major label that's a new band, that I'm into.

i really hate audioslave with a passion though if you really need a name!

I have never heard Avenged Sevenfold but I know I don't need to because I know they are shit. Their name is shit and their album artwork is shit. It's just more of this 'barrel scraping' stuff that passes for music these days. All style and no substance, the usual story.

Dear God no. TITR represented all that was wrong with emo and post-hardcore in the mid-'90s, and approached being the worst thing that the otherwise excellent Simba ever released with that first split 7". The entire approach was like being pandered to by someone's 'cool older brother'- tons of attitude in service of what, trying to get signed to a major label? I would rather have heard half a dozen more 108 albums than anything from TITR. Really.

That said, I get why people liked them. They seemed like they could actually make emo popular, and I'd rather see TITR representing that genre than whoever MTV comes up with these days.

If I remember this right, Appetite, the first Danzig, and Nothing's Shocking were released on the same day. A great day for music. I could be wrong. We were consuming an awful lot of pot back in those days.
