Ex-Hüsker Dü guitarist and singer-songwriter Bob Mould is preparing a new solo album, Body of Song, which is said to be "acoustic based', but more rock-oriented than 2002's electronic-tinged Modulate.
Mould recently signed with a new label, Yep Roc, which will release the long-in-the-making album on July 26th. The deadline has given the singer some inspiration, as he commented in his blog:
Nothing like a deadline to get me to finish something that has been dragging on for far too long. Well, I shouldn't put it that way; that makes it sound a little mechanical. I am shocked at the patience I showed in this whole process - there simply wasn't a full album's worth of quality material. Or, more accurately put, there wasn't an album of material which sounded like a coherent statement. This would be one of the lessons I learned in 2002.
I love Bob Mould. Sugar was one of the most influential bands in my teenage years. His solo stuff has all been excellent, with the possible exception of the electronic one 'cause I haven't heard it.

I loe Bob Mould. i saw Sugar in 1993 and it was amazing!
Sunspots by Bob is one of my favorite little pieces to play on guitar.
Sugar was a phenomenal band. I saw them in 92 and jumped onstage and semi-hugged Bob and then got thrown out of the door to the outside. I was able to get back in though...
Good times. I think I will break out some Bob solo tonight to prep myself for the upcoming album...
Bob Mould is a fabulous songwriter. Loved Suger, too. My wife and I just saw him in SF for the Noise Pop gig a couple weeks back. He was spot on and played some new material. Before the show, he was standing next to stage in the crowd and no one was noticing. I talked to him for a couple minutes as no one seemed to either know who he was or care. He was quite a fine fellow. We had a good chat. Nice to see him back to the acoustic as Last Dog was a nice mix of timbres. New stuff sounds promising. The last cd was a bit too forced production wise for me, but, it had Mould moments. Whatever the case, thanks for the post. Cheers to the release date!
I've never been able to truly get into Bob Mould's solo stuff. Guess I'm dedicated (still) to Husker Du. There was something about the tension of the band that resulted in some kind of stunning energy that I haven't found in his solo work. I like it, but don't nuts for it.
