Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) is my favorite album, though Here Comes the Warm Jets comes a close second.

i love brian eno's music and so many of the projects in which he has participated. recently i have been enjoying taking tiger mountain thanks to running across it in a CD store. i listened to it on cassette for years until i just didn't own a functioning cassette deck any more. there was a few year period where i went to sleep listening to "thursday afternoon". he also produced portions of my favorite jane siberry record "when i was a boy". brian eno could be politely described as fabulously talented.

for christmas i got a set of oblique strategies cards. i keep them in my studio and delve into them when i am having moral qualms with a direction a song is headed. i don't know if the musicians appreciate them, but i sure do. i recently pulled,

destroy:
nothing
the most important thing.

when a mix is totally falling apart that is powerful advice.

Eno is the neo one. His work with Harold Budd & Jon Hassell never grows outdated for me.

i'd stick my hand up in adulation... but i find his work incredibly variable, i'll listen to one recording and fall in love all over then listen to another and swear never to touch his work again

An Ending (Ascent) from 28 Days Later, and Deep Blue Day from Trainspotting are my favorites of his.

I'm glad his pop albums and early ambient stuff have been reissued. For quite a while there, people would have no idea who Brian Eno was other than Trainspotting soundtrack.

I did think "Here Comes the Warm Jets" was pretty damn good. The ambient stuff is interesting, but none of it has really stuck with me.

Those remasters are a godsend. That said, most of his ambient work is quite overrated, and most of his pop work is quite underrated.
