I'm lost
August 2002

OCT 31, 2002 03:52 PM

Today is the saddest day for me in a while. Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC was shot and killed. I have never felt a loss like this ever when someone I didn't actually know died. Kurt Cobain was sad, I felt bad for Alliah, I was bumed when Laine from Alice In Chains died, but this is killing me. Jay was a master, an innovator, a trail blazer. Even to non- hip-hop fans, he was known. Run-DMC will always be known as the band that broe hip-hop, made it what it is today. Hip-hop will forever be in debt to Jay and DMC. Biggie and Pac were both idiots. I'm sorry, but they were. They both ran their mouths and talked so much shit, that thier ending was almost written on the wall. But Jay and DMC were always supportive of all of the hip-hop world. They never dissed. They never talked smack. This is a sorry way for such a wonderful man and musicial master to perish. This was a cowardly act by a cowardly person. I couldn't think of a fitting punishment for the offender, because my mind isn't even that cruel. Show respect, hip-hop fans, and non hip-hop fans alike. Jam master jay, Master, innovator, friend, leader, role-model, You will be missed. To all you new school kids. If ever you wear shell toe Addidas, you owe DMC. If you scratch records, you owe Jay. If you appreciate where hip-hop is and what a force it has become, you owe Jay and DMC. If you like bands like Limp Bizkit, P.O.D., Rage Against The Machine, or Linkin Park, you owe Jay and DMC for their work with Aerosmith. If you bump bass in your car, you owe Jay and DMC. The entire music world, not just hip-hop, the ENTIRE music world, all communities, black or white, all people who appreciate truly innovative music, all people who appreciate creativity, YOU ALL OWE JAY HIS RESPECTS!

Jam Master Jay, you shall never be forgotten. You shall live forever in our hearts and in our souls forever. Your music is timeless, and you shall continue to influence for years to come. I bow my head and remain silent in respect, and every time I hear a PHAT beat, I will always think of you. We must find peace in hip-hop, this time especially, it has gone too damn far!

I'm not going out like that

Many of our people...
Stealing...
Gambling...
Many of our people turn to...
Crime, time, now I get mine
Climb, do find, wine and just dine
Make, break, ill and just take
Fate, for God's sake, I rake for that stake
Crack, whack, smack you right back
Back, you might lack, Jack, you fight crack
Cry, lie, do or just die
Live positive and give and that's why
I'm not
Going out, out out like that, I'm not!!
Going out, out out like that like like, like..
Going out, out out like that, I'm not!!
Going out, out out like that!
Didn't hear me and you knew it
I praise MCs, so get to it
You want floor talk, and you're tryin'
I taught one more, 'cause you're dyin'
Your place, race, chase, and I see it
And now, child, bow, and I mean it
I came, saw, kicked, and you saw it
The crowd proud and loud, and all for it
Grim sin is wrong, so don't do it
Win friend, a song, and you blew it
I knew the time was right, so I wrote it
Here's the hook, look, so just quote it
I'm not
Going out, out out like that, I'm not!!
Going out, out out like that like like, like..
Going out, out out like that, I'm not!!
Going out, out out like that!
Comin' off, time and time, and that's whether
You, your crew knew whatever
I did done do, I 'm this clever
I'll come again and win, and you'll never
See a man like me, your idol
So joke, smoke, toke this title
The rhyme is mine, fine and so vital
It's time for me to rock a recital
Gonna tell ya about a groove that's comin'
From the heart, your part just one in a million
All you will be bummin'
So check the time, the rhyme, it comes from in
Side your brain, remains, so just keep it
Plain, same, the frame, so just peep it
Look, see and check, but never stop it
The hook comes next, so Jay drop it
I'm not
Going out, out out like that, I'm not!!
Going out, out out like that like like, like..
Going out, out out like that, I'm not!!
Going out, out out like that!
Gotta go Joe, ya know,
To the T-O-P and see D, you know we know
The way today, I say I'm not a Leo
The king is D, and Jay the Scorpio
That's left to smile a while, keep grinnin'
This past style is wild, and I'm winnin'
Roll, stroll, control and I'm coolin'
The king of rock and roll, and I'm rulin'
I rock, shock, get stopped, and I'm droppin'
I pop hip-hop, I'm hip-hoppin'
Receive a G for Lee, while I'm throwin'
It's D, ya see, it's me, I'm not goin'
I'm not
Going out, out out like that, I'm not!!
Going out, out out like that like like, like..
Going out, out out like that, I'm not!!
Going out, out out like that!
Munch, crunch us, you gotta take us out, we're hotter
Team is mean, a lotta work involved, we're smarter
Dee, Jay, Run, no jokin', hot as hell, we're smokin'
Punks rough toughs, we're yokin', news is crews are chokin'
Out like that, not going in like men, we're growin'
Chance to dance, not blowing, go to show, don't roll in
Don't you know, we're sayin', here to show, not playin'
Here's the jam, respect it, time to end this record!

I'm with you on that one. Any idea on who did it/why he was killed?

I don't mean to lessen the fact that the guy is dead, but why do you think people here are giving it so much attention? It's getting WAY more traffic that Joey or Dee Dee Ramone did. Why is that? Do you think his contribution was more important than the Ramones or say, George Harrison? Is it just a generational thing? Just curious.

Kick off shoes jump on the jock
Listen to the Jam Master as he starts to rock
His name is Jay and he's on his way
To be the best DJ in the US of A

J a y are the letters of his name
Cutting and scratching are the aspects of his game
So check out the Master as he cuts these jams
And look at us with the mics in our hands
Then take a count 1 2 3
Jam Master Jay Run D.M.C.

He's Jam Master Jay the big beat blaster
He gets better cause he knows he has to
In '84 he'll be a little faster
And only practice makes a real Jam Master

We're live as can be but we're not singing the blues
We got to tell all y'all the good news
The good news is that there is a crew
Not 5, not 4, not 3, just 2
2 MC's who are claiming the fame
And all other things won't be the same
Beacause it's about time for a brand new group
Run-D.M.C. to put you up on the scoop
We make the fly girls scream in ecstacy
We rock the freshest rhymes at a party
We put all the fellas in a daze
It's everyone that we amaze
And we got the master of a disco scratch
There's not a break that he can't catch
Jam Master Jay that is his name
And all wild DJ's he will tame
Behind the turntables is where he stands
Then there is the movement of his hands
So when asked who's the best, y'all should say:
"Run-D.M.C. and Jam Master Jay"

Jam Master Jay is the one in charge
It's up to him to rock beats that are truly large
He is the master of the scratch and cut
So move your arms, so move your legs
So won't you move your butt

We're not talking ground, we're not talking sky
We're not talking low, we're not talking high
We're not talking big, we're not talking small
We want all of the people on off the wall
We're not talking night, we're not talking day
But we're talking bout Jam Master Jay

-damn....

To Googuse, I think the reason this is getting more attention than the Ramones is this, Dee Dee and Joey both died, Jay was murdered. Death from natural causes, drug use, accidents even seem to be a little easier to deal with than murder. That's my opinion anyway

WORD juebi...well said, yo. I don't even have anymore to add to that beautiful remembrance except to say that JMJ was a very beloved man/icon inside and outside of the hip hop world and he will be missed.

I see what you mean - I guess it's not a real big surprise when some junkie freak checks out or after a long illness or something. JMJ seemed like a cool guy - didn't pull that bullshit gangsta vibe and all that and gave back to his community in a big way. It's a shitty way to go out.
