Christina Aguilera Stripped

I bought ‘Stripped’ earlier today. She set up certain targets for herself, and pretty much hit every one exactly on the mark. Its not the candy-pop that I feared it would be. Christina comes off as a real person who enjoys who she is. Good for me to hear. She’s talented to an excess but keeps it under control and focused. Its shamanism-pop and not self-conscious or contrived. This will make no sense: this album at certain moments has the same affect on me as Patti Smith. There’s no faking in it. Song number 6 sort of begins it in a way and then the songs get successively better after that. Definitely worth $11.99. On the cover, she’s got that kind of hi I’m Shakira look at my crotch pose. But she’s also shaman girl, wounded, with an arrow in her soul, and a bow in her throat. As usual, I have no idea what I mean, and yet I keep typing. Buy it!!!!

Sorry to be harsh but it's not like this music is underexposed. There's a huge marketing campain behind this trollop trying to cram her down my throat. I suppose I could try and send a reply to her marketing machine but I doubt anyone would care. It's much easier to reply to you.

No, no. That could probably even be considered sacraligous.

I won't even dignify the blasphemous Patti/Christina comparison.

I will say, however, that if you can look beyond the smattering of pop songs here and give a good, openminded listen to the more soulful tracks that were written/produced alongside the likes of women like Linda Perry and Alicia Keys - and get into the fact that this is a young woman exorcising several of her childhood demons - then you'll be satisfied. She's got a lot of purging to do, and it's working for her on this release.

It's too bad she had to come out with the "Fuck Me, I'm a Ho" look to draw attention to the record though. A lot of people are going to be confused by her motives. This is an artist who wants people to take her seriously, but how can you pay attention to the somber tones on some of these songs, which are quite beautifully done, when you're busy staring at half of her boobs and her pubic bone?

She sings her ass off, and she always has. This is why I don't understand why she feels the need to SHOW her ass as well. I have nothing against nudity or erotica (OBVIOUSLY!) I'm just saying - this is someone who doesn't need to get naked to further her SINGING career, and if she wants to be taken seriously as a SINGER, she should learn how to dress so it's not such a distraction.

I heard a hilarious thing on the radio last night - I was listening to the Michael Medved asshole's conservative xtian talk show on the radio and he was reading the lyrics from Crustina's new album in his dorky, deadpan weenie voice. Man, I was laughing my ass off. I get so much entertainment out of those shows!

i don't think I've ever heard any of her songs. This article on her new image was amusing. It doesn't claim she lacks talent so much as she's a little misguided.

I don't know whether this thing she's trying out was her idea or her label's, but just for the sake of argument let's assume that it's her's, and that she's happy with and proud of her sex appeal and wants the world to know it. I mean, that's the kind of thing we encourage here, right? If that's the case, then why shouldn't it be part of who she is and what she does?

I don't really like what you're saying, but it's absolutely valid. People who flaunt their sexuality aren't taken seriously. So if that's what she wants, she'd better work with the system and tone things down a bit.
