Tell me there is anything better than Vinyl. Theres nothin like dustin off an old LP and putting down the needle. And the thrill of taking it off and carefully turning it over. Or the excitement of having to give it a nudge when it skips. Or the sheer joy of not being able to keep them in you back seet on a sunny day. Everyone can appreciate them, from punks to dj's to well, old people who just havnt quite moved on. And lets face it... if youhave a good system and a good turntable, you can't beat the sound quality. My favorite in my collection has to be my Electric Frankenstein "Teenage Shutdown" picture disc. So lets talk of the joys of vinyl. or if you hate it for some crazy reason... talk too.

I like buying cds from bands that put statements on the liner notes like 'cd's blow" or "this is meant to be listened to on vinyl." It's like fuck you man, i just bought your goddamn album on cd, all right, stop bitching!

I like vinyl though, makes listening experience more involved, more organic, like it's a ritual. Pulling the album out of a stack, the cover staring back at you like no cd cover can. Then you slip it out of the sleeve, carefully put it on the record player, needle, pop, hiss...You're also more inclined to speak about an album by its sides which is silly if you're talking to someone who only listens to the cd. "Sides? wtf you talking about? it says tracks 1-15 on my copy, dipshit" Also, unless it's a prog rock band or overly ambitious artist a good, solid record would be 40 minutes or so, max. Nowadays it seems so many artists like to fill a cd to its limits, which isn't a bad thing, but sometimes it seems like certain albums could have cut back a little. save your stuff for b-sides on singles!

but i'm also lazy and cds are so much more convenient and easy to move around. And the drinking thing, yeah, I've dropped and stepped on a good share of records under the influence. It has sucked nads when the album was also a rarity.

drive like jehu's first album is the one where the only thing stamped on the CD is the cat number and the phrase:
CD's really fucking blow
i get a laugh every time i pull that one out.

I got a real treat when I bought Shellac's 1000 Hurts on Vinyl. Came in a beautful 12" box. You know, the one sized for a reel of tape. Included in it was the CD version of the album! Nothing stamped on it, no case, no sleeve. Just rolling around in the box. But it's nice to have a copy for the home and a portible copy as well.

I buy most of my new music on vinyl. Its usually cheaper than CDs. The artwork is always nice to have in large 12" form. And since CDs are so disposible now, the record really feels like you own something.
You often get bonus stuff too. Like the new Sleater Kinney record had an extra 7". Hellacopters records often have vinyl only bonus tracks.

And then I can download the songs and make mixed CDs and stuff.. (Or copy the vinyl to my computer.. often pretty time consuming, though.)

I think vinyl is cool for older stuff, or intentionally lo-fi stuff.

but if I'm listening to a recent band like Garbage, or STP and such.......cd is for me.

I think vinyl is slightly overrated.

well.... personally, i love long epic albums, and i love long epic songs... that's the only thing i don't like about vinyl... it's too short... one side is like 15 minutes of music on a 33... cry and a shame

however it is a great pick up line to say "i could write an entire 7 inch about your eyes, what color would you like the vinyl?"

Love vinyl... my collection isn't huge but still love spinning a disc. When my friends tell me they don't even have a turntable i'm in shock!!?? Most of the great punk bands wren't even available on CD for a long ass time.... so makes me wonder what the hell they were listening to??!!

what about 7"s? most of the rare stuff has b-sides you'll never be able to hear on cd? aren't you missing out on some sweet shit?

...i love the big round things. nothing like the color each recording adds to the experience of listening to it on wax. plus it can be so much cheaper these days for classic/old shit... good needles are a must have!... i found a Ray Charles greatest hits, 36 songs, perfect condition for only ONE BUCK a few months ago. i love digging for neat stuff. plus the artwork is often so much more catching to see it large. i spin house/techno stuff, but i love listening to old symphonic/prog rock/blues/ ect on yinyl as much as possible. the only thing i hate is records are harder to make out to (sometimes hard to get up and flip, you know... that's the best thing about having a 5 cd changer).
