These are bands that have mostly been on soundtracks for crappy teen movies, trying to get some attention. But I kinda really like their sound...anyone else know anything about them?

I've seen Save Ferris live...and they are great...and Monique is hot! I grabbed her ass by the way.... biggrin And I dig Letters to Cleo also....I like fun bands of this sort when I'm in a good mood, and want to listen to light music. But other than that, I don't know too awful much about them.

letters to cleo was a boston band, they put out three records but sadly broke up. Kay hanley the lead singer did the singing for Josie and the Pussycats, and I think she is doing some solo stuff but I'm not sure.

but 10 Things I Hate About You was not a crappy movie! I have the whole thing memorized and I am definitely not ashamed. Letters to Cleo rocked in that movie, and so did Save Ferris. Monique Powell is my hero, I mentioned this before... love

i have Aurora Gory Alice by Letters to Cleo - has their biggest 'hit' to my knowledge, "Here and Now". Really liked that song, but the rest of the cd didn't do a whole lot for me. She's a pretty good singer - sort of a poor man's Kristin Hersh, but the music was just a little too so-so.

i saw save ferris about 5 years ago, before that god awful "come on eileen" song, and they were amazing. monique powell has a great stage presence. and she did also come out on stage and sing with big fish 6 years ago, again when people didn't like big fish cuz they weren't on commercial radio, and the audience actually booed her off stage. a few people threw stuff at her. it was really fucking sad. i don't like the newer save ferris stuff as much as the older stuff. i don't know about soundtracks, but they're 1st 2 cds, the self tittled ep and the lp "it means everything", are great, although "it means everything" has a lot of the same songs as the self titled one, only a different recording.

I don't know anything about Save Ferris, but I know I have a huuuuuuuuge crush on Kay Hanley. Or at least, i have a crush on her voice. Not that she isn't so fucking adorable I could DIE, but I know, and can tell from just het singing, that I could listen to her constantly and probably never get sick of it. She's definitely gone solo, and has had an album out since August. I don't have it yet, 'cause I'm a poor bastard.

Josie and the Pussycats is the best soundtrack ever!

They both did better stuff before those soundtracks.

I saw Letters to Cleo at a beach party on Cape Cod, MA, and they were fun. My lover saw Save Ferris, in Portland, and said she left smiling and sweaty. I think you should look for any possible live recordings of these two, as they were kinda sterile in the studio. Also, Kay Hanley sings the female lead on a Dropkicks Murphys song - "The Dirty Glass". It's on the Face To Face/Dropkick Murphy split CD on Vagrant Records. The Dropkicks side kicks ass, of course!

Also, if you like that song "Dirty Glass", you should check out the Pouges doing "Fairytale Of New York"; a song similar in style and content, with alternating male/female leads. I'm sure it inspired the later song.
