anyone bought any good cd's lately worth checking out?

I just bought the new 3 cd comp from dischord records called "20 years of dischord". It has unreleased minor threat...stuff from government issue, teen idols, scream, void, fugazi and a ton of other stuff

the set contains a song from everyband on dischord that has been previously released, a 130 page booklet and some unreleased stuff (21 songs)

Ooo... i'm jealous. i've been hoping to pick that one up. but i've decided to wait until my birthday for these things.

i reciently bought the newest EP from Milemarker called Satanic Versus. it's a six-er with a weird combination of some Dischord sounds with a lot of electronics and keyboard noises. if you the Dischord stuff you might like this. What else..

i've been pretty broke, but I've also reciently bought the Constantines EP, Queens of the Stone Age's new one and Hot Snakes' Automatic Midnight. All records I'm very happy with.

Well, right before I got hit w/ a tuition reassessment (and now Bell stuck me w/ a $246 phone bill because they had a hidden fee on the plan I just signed up for) I bought these three albums, all of which are very good:

Metropolis Original Soundtrack, by Toshiyuki Honda, featuring Atsuki Kimura and Minako "mooki" Obata
Blazing Arrow, by Blackalicious
Highly Evolved, by The Vines

I picked up a copy of John Paul Jones's "The Thunderthief," out of curiousity (somewhere on Bloor Street, actually). It's pretty funky. JPJ was the bassist for Led Zeppelin, and it's interesting to hear his own stuff. Worth checking out if you like strange, beautiful music.

yeah, it is good. reminds me of a band from around here called Pedestrian Status. good stuff.

but, what i meant was less of a punk thing and more of a jawbox-y thing. and not an organ-y keyboard, but more of an aliens have come for your children kind of futuristic menacing sound.

does constable brennan play around ontario? i'm sure they'd go over here.. in london.

they mostly play toronto, but they do travel around...

I assume you mean london ontario?

the keyboard player is crazy...he gets trashed every show and does crazy shit, like jumping up and down on his keyboard and stage diving off of it. Fun

I bought that Dischord box set too... amazing.... so good, even though I'm not as big of a fan of later Dischord as I am early Dischord...

Also got the following:
Botch "Anthology of Dead Ends" CDEP - Last (*sniff*) Botch album, but ends the band on a high note... amazing mathcore... everyone should buy it

Cave In "Tides of Tomorrow" CDEP - If you hated Jupiter, you'll hate this too... Cave In continues the space rock oddessy with 6 new songs... good stuff, just not metal...

I just bought the Streets, excellent british hip hop, kinda dance influenced, very different, but very good, might take a couple of listens to truly "get it"

Most recent purchases

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
Few bands put out a CD as solid as this one.

Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary and How it Feels to be Something On
Diary is an essential CD, and Something On is just really good.

And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Source Tags and Codes
Excellent CD in it's diversity and flow. All around A+

Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
I knew people would be jerking off to this CD about a month prior to its release, and I was right.

Snot - Alive
Whether or not this CD is a must have is debatable. It's practically a live version of all the song off the first CD (which is great, don't get me wrong). Take caution when buying.

I also heard someone mention Hot Snakes, whose CD I don't have, but I have heard a lot of. These guys are amazing.

yup. you have to get it. start with Automatic Midnight. It grabs you a lot faster than their second one, Suicide Invoice. But, once you love Auto-Midnight, you adore Suicide Invoice. They played an awesome show in Toronto in September. Awesome. They even did a couple of Drive Like Jehu songs! JEHU!

.. botch has a new CD?! Why don't I know these things? Is it an odds and sods collection?

I've heard about half of both CDs and have a solid grasp on Snakes, but thanks anyway. Also, from what I read (as Botch.net dosent seem to have any info on this), it is a 6 song EP, where all the songs are mispelled names of countries, replacing Ns with Ms. A portion of "Framce" was available on Botch.net for a while, i don't know if it still is.

Drive Like Jehu = GOLD!

For all those that need to know... the last Botch called "An Anthology of Dead Ends" is a brand new album, but only a couple of "real" songs, and some weird noise stuff, but it's all good.

There was also a re-release of the Botch "Unifying Themes" CD called "Unifying Themes Redux" (wow, that's a shocker), but it's got a lot of the old Botch stuff that's way outta print (like the John Birch 7", the split with Nineironspitfire, the comp. tracks, etc.) so buy that too!!

Also, everyone should own the new Cephalic Carnage and Agoraphobic Nosebleed records, and the Orchid CD that collects their first two records. Those are essential... that is all....
