Okay, just finished watching Dancer in the Dark. For those of you who are unaware, it's the Lars Van Tries film musical with all the songs co-written by Bjork. It's awesome. Far from a normal musical, I loved it so much. I was even willing to forgive the fact that the ending dragged and that Bjork was supposed to be Czechoslovakian and, having just come from a one month trip to the Czech Republic, I can assure you that they don't sound vaguely British like Bjork did.

So, anyway, now that I've been won over to the Bjork camp, any recommendations?

(And just to stop the stupid jokes before they start, please don't recomment "shooting yourself". Yeah, real creative.)

gee, i dunno, everything? really, she hasn't put out a bad album. therefore, i'd suggest you start with debut and progress from there. my personal favorite is homogenic, though; "bachelorette", specifically.

i'm a huge Björk fan. so you can start by typing her name forever correctly...B J at+148 R K. =) i was so happy figuring that out. then you can take bocuma's advice and start from the beginning. and then check out the "all is full of love" video. yum.

i believe he meant Bj (@)+148 rk instead of the letters try the symbol

Bj@+148rk. i chose not to spell it out because that creates a pause in my train of thought. the umlaut is understoo though i'd say.

damn. maybe not. how do i get the umlautted o?

[Edited on Jul 18, 2004 by mister_x]

Bj@148rk did it get it?

This is my very favorite movie.

As for suggestions, though, go through her website. When last I checked, she had every one of her music videos up there. See what you like.

She also has about fourteen thousand pictures of herself, which I find impressive.

Bjork is Icelandic, last I heard....

Edited to say you should also give the Sugar Cubes a listen. They were Bjork's band before she was Bjork. Well, I mean, she was still Bjork because that's her name, she just wasn't Bjork Bjork.

In the movie, she plays a Czech immigrant.

Yeah, but she does sound somewhat British. Perhaps that's her Icelandic accent. Either way it was not a Czech or Czechoslovakian accent.

I'm a big Sugarcubes fan, but I can't name a single Bjork song. I keep meaning to check her out, but I never get around to it... I think the other members of the band reign in her wackiness just slightly. I like their first album, Life's Too Good.

NOT that we agree on anything, but...
Yeah, it's just her funky accent, which I love. However, it did seem a little off in the movie. Some of the people I've watched it with couldn't understand anything she said, and the subtitles took away from it a bit.
Just don't buy the soundtrack. It fucks up all the songs.

I think the beginning was a LOT slower than the end. It seemed necessary to set everything up, but it was SLOW...

I always tell people, if they can make it to the first musical scene, they'll be okay.

If you wan't to star a Björk collection and you already saw Dancer in the Dark, I would sugest you to beging with Selmasongs /the soundtrack/, and then go backwards, all the way to the 1977 album, in some point you will say: oh I really like this album, then you can strat digging around the remixes and the singles, and well you could stop somewhere or keep buying and buying stuff like I've been for the last 7 years.

I think that was actually a female reporter in Singapore who was getting too close to Bjork's son, Sindri. Bjork beat the crap out of her. God, how could I love her more? love
