I just checked both the Alternative tentacles sight and the Dead Kennedys web sight ....and East BAy Ray is trying to make it seem as though Jello Will re-join them and put out music again.
"The record industry has been skimming royalties owed artists since the beginning,” said Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray. “This case is no different from blues musicians being taken advantage of in the twenties and thirties. Many people doubted the claims we made against our former record label back in 1998 but with this announcement there is no denying we were the victims here. Now maybe it’s time for Klaus, D.H., Biafra, and myself to move on with our lives - more music and less lawyers!”

and tries to make it seem like Alternative Tentacles (Owned by Jello) is the real culprit and everything is fine.......

"The tactic used was to turn any statement of fact into a question of motive. The band was accused of wanting to profit from a mythical television commercial, yet they have never allowed their music in a commercial. The band was accused of greed, yet it was the label who took money from them. The band was accused of wanting to sign to a major record label, yet they signed to independent label Manifesto Records. The band was accused of wanting to destroy their former record label, yet the label is still in business. Lo and behold, all these claims against the band were false from the beginning."

something seems really fishy here....or is just me?

"punk band's lawyers squabble about royalties" is hilarious, when you think about it. they've all become The Man.

Rumor has it that at the fake Dead Kennedys shows chants of "We Want Jello" are pretty common while they're playing.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. Jellos definatly hurtnin for money, and a dead kennedys reunion would make bank. And did they really work it out, I read an interview with him like a month ago and he wass still saying how their all a bunch of bastards, or is he just swallowing his pride to continue his label? Only The Shadow Knows. and Karnak.

I read the latest and greatest Rollins book (Broken Summers?) -- its pretty much Rollins's diary for the last year or so.

Anywho ...

There's a part of it where he goes into how he was working with him on some various project, and he was urging him to just let go of the Dead Kennedys name because he litterally lost his home over it and it was just getting worse. But yeah that's some serious dedication on Jello's part to keep doing what he's doing (between that lawsuit and AT).

Which is why I think he's the only one of them with any credibility left.

I think you're just misunderstanding the context. The Dead Kennedys (sans-Biafra) want to "just play music" with Brandon Cruz singing, not Jello. (hence the refernce to the Courtship of Eddie's Father, which Brandon Cruz starred in as a child)

The Dead Kennedys without Jello Biafra is like the New Testament without Jesus - totally fucking worthless. Yeah, the music was some of the best punk writing ever - but DK was all about Jello in the end.

no, I did get that context--but if you go on reading what old East Bay Ray had to say...they were only talking about releases which included Jello ( A few DVD's and so on) and perhaps it was just me but it sure seemed like he was trying to make it seem like a possiblity......either way....who cares...I am waiting on the Jello/Melvins and could care less about the rest of the dead kennedys

No, actually, an even scarier thing is how incredibly shitty the DKs were live back in those days.

Hrmm, yeah I didn't really get that from it... but I'd buy it for a dollar. DK is one of those bands that I never saw, that I would kill to.

Tell me more, tell me more!! biggrin biggrin biggrin

The LP / CD will be titled Never Breathe What You Can't See and is now expected in October. Jello recently played some of the songs on Colombus, Ohio's CD101.1 on the show The Independent Playground. Songs from the record include "McGruff The Crime Dog," "Islamic Bomb," "Voted Off The Island," and "Yuppie Cadillac."

and my two favorite before this one ( I am sure of that) are the nomeansno lp of which you speak and the one with DOA...classic ...

Eh, so? Punk shows aren't about playing well - it's about energy, etc. The best show I ever saw was Nation of Ulysses, back in '92 (I think). Everyone at that show came away from it totally transformed - a truly pivotal moment in the CA punk scene.

Well, it just so happens I also recorded the show. And listening back to it, you know what...? They sucked. But who fucking cares, they absolutely ruled live and anyone at that show would say the same.

Uh...thanks for the punk rock lesson, but I've seen most of the important bands of the past 30 years. Trust me, the DKs were shitty by any standard. In spite of the cliche that punk was about "energy" the best bands also knew how to play, write songs and had incredible stage presence and charisma. None of those things applied to the DKs. Jello was a mousey little weasel with a whiney voice singing stupid novelty songs to an audience too dumb to know better. There was no comparison with the great California punk bands of the time like X or Black Flag, not to mention any of the great English or New York bands.

Well, I've certainly heard conflicting stories about DK live, but whatever. I don't think that whether DK was this or that live takes away from their legacy, at any rate - just as NoL's 'shitty' performance doesn't take away from my enjoyment of them.

What year(s) did you see DK play?

I saw them a few times between 1978 and 1980.

I'm quite jealous, regardless of whether you thought they sucked or not. I suppose it's possible that they improved in the second half of their career, but I won't press the issue. wink

Don't be jealous, you didn't miss much. As to their "career," other than the "Fresh Fruit" album, what did it consist of?
