HAHA! explain this reasonably, without mentioning any of the bands he's recorded because that has NOTHING to do with the enginnering or production... tell me how he is "the worst" by the actual sound you find so horrible, what you think he could do better on production-wise? I dislike most of the bands he's ever worked with... a lot! but as a producer he is amazing and if people disrespect that just because of who he works with then the are close-minded.

but hey! you could totally have a valid point and I could just be being a dick, but I'd seriously like to hear your opinion on this.

for one thing...it doesn't really have so much to do with the bands he's worked with. the one record that turned me off to him was actually the last at the drive-in record, a band i really liked at one point. his production on the thing wasn't what i thought was so terrible, the sound of the actual recording is what i hated. it's WAY over compressed but then again so is most everything that is on a major label now. absolutely no dynamic range to it at all. the soundstage is a bit cluttered and the drums just sound like shit to me. the entire thing also has the "radio sheen" to it to make it overly bright sounding and seemingly louder on the radio. their record before that was done by a guy named alex newport and the sound is just a lot more pleasing to me. but i'm very picky from years of dealing with the shit so that's just my opinion...and quite a few others that i know who are also engineers that are really talented. but recording is a purely subjective thing i believe. it's just that his style isn't my thing.

well put! I like his work, even that recording and everyone bashes him for the bands he works with so I get defensive on the subject. (sorry). I've worked a little with sound engineering myself and I'd have to say the other ATDI recordings I've heard had much similar sound qualities and I think that's what the band was maybe aiming for concidering the efforts were done with different producers. I can't find my in/casino/out to say who worked with them on that but I think those recordings were in the same vein, even though in my opinion in/casino/out was a far better album in general.

I agree 100% with you on Alex Newport.

yeah, alex newport did in/casino/out, that's the one i was really talking about, but some of the stuff off that ep after it was him also. they recorded that record live, he just basically gave cedric(?) the microphone and made them play a show in the studio

Vex Red,Glassjaw, and the new blood bros all sound really good to me personally, alot less gloss then other records that he's done.

Most people identify him with Korn and Limp Bizkit, but seem to neglect the other things that he's done, the sad truth is that everything on a major is glossed over and ready for radio, and that low budget, raw, grainy sound found on really old records, will likely never be heard again without it sounding forced and artificial.

i think its not out until february 2003... on artistdirect

this is my first listen to them... sounds like they are trying real hard to recapture the music glassjaw made on their kiss kiss bang bang EP. its alright... but perhaps it'll grow on me more.
