how do you figure? because they don't play metal anymore? well, when you think about how young they are, the stuff they were playing back then is just angry music - what most bands in their late teens play. the fact is, they're extremely talented musicians that don't want to be confined in any specific genre. i think that they write great songs and however they choose to showcase their abilities, i will listen. people change and grow up. if you don't like that, than don't listen to it. it's your loss.

It's brilliant. period

so much better than what they were doing pre-jupiter. I don't care what anyone has to say about that statement either.

you also should check out devils head pinata which just came out on the plea for peace comp. it's an older song, re-recorded.

It's very good. The song about sitting on the beach eating coconuts or whatever can fuck off, but the other songs are pretty fly. To bad they are like watching water boil live.

what's the cover they do on this ep? i heard they do one but i didn't hear what it was. also...their live show is so hit and miss. i've seen them about 5 or 6 times and almost every other time i've seen them has been a turd. but i have seen them when they were really, really good. last year's MACROCK show was pretty fucking amazing.

"so much better than what they were doing pre-jupiter"

i totally agree. i mean, i love "until your heart stops". it's one of my favorite heavy albums, but man... the shit that they do now is just so fucking awesome that words can't quite describe how i feel about it.

"what's the cover they do on this ep?"

the cover is "the callus" by giants chair. haven't heard the original myself, so i can't comment on it's faithfulness.

I like the new album... I liked Jupiter too... but, my one wish in life is that I could've seen Cave In rock the metal just once... I don't care that they don't play it now... I just want to see "Crossbearer" live... the next time they come here I'm showing up during their sound check... appearantly they do old songs then...

I have seen Cave-In in there metal days they were equally amazing but they had a different singer, I think he was one of the reasons they were so good.Beyond Hypothermia is still one of my favorite "heavy" albums, and it still holds up after all these years.

The cover is a Giants Chair song. Not many people have any GC stuff, but it's a pretty close cover. Steve has said before that Giants Chair and Failure are his two favorite bands (they covered Failure on the Creative Eclipses ep).

P.S.Cave In were a mosnter live in the early Hydrahead days. They are pretty dull live now.

just judging their heavier material, i can't honestly see how anyone could say that beyond hypothermia is in any way, shape, or form is better than until your heart stops. don't get me wrong, there's some good songs on hypothermia, but it's a mish-mash collection of stuff they did when they were super young, and it shows. plus that singer was nowhere near as good as stephen. and musically, until your heart stops was much more complete, more experimental, and more mature. the recording quality was a million times better....maybe it's just me....

I gotta disagree, not that Until wasn't good, but Stephen wasn't nearly as good at screaming, especially live. I think he found his calling after "Until..." Jupiter is a phenominal record, one of my favorites, that year. "unil..." just shows off there Slayer influence

see... i have to disagree with you. i don't think that either of their two previous singers even came close to expressing the same amount of emotion that stephen did. plus i find his screams to be much more ear-pleasing than either of the earlier guys. and i think that there are a whole lot more influences that can be heard on until, not just slayer. if slayer was the only influence, then the whole album would've sounded like the first song, and then we wouldn't have received the pleasure of such awesome songs like juggernaut or the end of our rope is a noose.

see maybe it's just me but I didn't like Stephens voice as much until he actually started to sing. I haven't listyened to "Until..." in a while but I still likemthe record, just not as much as "Beyomd..." but hey, everybodies entitled to their own opinion, right? At least we can agree that they are a great band.

agreed. they are a great band, and i can't wait for their major label debut. and since they don't play any of their old stuff anymore, it's just arguing for the sake of arguing, so.....

OK I bought the new ep listened to it a couple of times, listening to it now, not sure how I feeel about it, as a follow up to "Jupiter" I think it falls a little short. I'm hoping that they saved all the good songs for the full length. "Tides..." seems like leftovers from the Jupiter recordings, maybe they are I am not too sure. It's not a bad disc though, just not as good as I have come to expect. But then again following up one of the best records to come out that year is hard.
