OK, new topic:
What groups broke up before they sucked?
Disclaimer: I'm talking groups here - so no Jimi Hendrix nonsense. Also, no break up caused by death. This excludes Nirvana and such.
I'll start things off. I'm sure I'll think of more as time goes on.
Husker Du
Pixies
Jellyfish
Minor Threat
Beatles
Uncle Tupelo
A few years ago, I could have said Janes Addiction but the they had to reunite and release that piece of shit "Kettle Whistle".
Who else?

Good point. And one I need to clarify. I meant Danzigs Misfits... I think we can all agree that there really is no need to mention the Misfits of today. apologies

Trompe le monde sucked pretty big. But at least they didn't try to fix it.
Cut The Crap takes The Clash off this immeditaly. I cannot let it slide because as an unassuming 13-year-old I bought it, thinking it would be just as good as the other Clash records I had bought! I was so mad.

Did Cut The Crap even count as a Clash album? Mick Jones had already left.

Combat Rock sucked anyway, only if for Rock The Casbah. Man, I hate that song!!!

Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld may have to be included as well, then.

Didn't Death Tougue break up because the singer ran for President or something? Or was that the Dead Kennedys? I can't remember.

(Maybe DK should go on the list, too? Because the band that's touring now doesn't count. Although Bedtime for Democracy wasn't too hot.)

Yeah, it counts. Joe Strummer + Paul Simonon were pretty confident that they were still relevant. (ha!)
But I'll defend Combat Rock. I think it's a little unever, but there's some pretty good stuff on it. And Rock the Casbah isn't that bad. It's no Tommy Gun, but it's not crap.
Actually, I'm going to put it on right now (but I'll start on side 2, the weird side).

Mostly esoteric indie rock bands, but let's face it, most bigger bands don't break up until they totally suck or a principal songwriter dies.

Codeine
Don Caballero
Drive Like Jehu
Galaxy 500
Hoover
Simon and Garfunkel

Not to mention all of this is relative. Most folks may have never heard of most of these bands or might think they sucked to begin with. Ah, well. I sure wish Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones would break up already.

Cheers,
LM

"Yank Crime" is on my Top 10 of all time.

But at least from the breakup of Jehu, we have Hot Snakes.
