Nobody loves these guys enough.
I don't know how many people here are actually familiar with them.
I adore them.. I wish I could have seen them but they were through before I was born I do believe. Also, such a small catalog of releases. Too bad they didn't get their dues.
Share the Radio Birdman love if you've got it. I know SOMEBODY else here has to dig them.
Anyways, if you aren't familiar with them, check them out.

make with the clickly and check out my fave band list.... Radio Birdman are one of thoes bands that will get there due in time, just like the Stooges, the MC 5, the rationals, and all the other Detroit Rock groups.

I've seen Dez Tek live in the last 2 years, and he's still amzing. Not to brag but I was present when he met the Hellacopters in Detriot in 2002.. that was a great day.

Also: Have you checked out the Flattery: A tribute to Radio Birdman CD's (there are 2 of them, and both are worth picking up)?

Back in about '91 my roommates girlfriend had a banner on the wall in the living room - a curious red symbol....It was the logo of this band! I had already been a fan of several of the greats from down under....

i like 'em... but, i guess i'm just naive, but i just assume if you're in to cool music and/or punk rock, you already know and love them too.

They got a lot of press and hype a few years ago when Sub Pop put out a double disc compilation of their stuff.

They rock! Man With Golden Helmet is my favourite track by these guys, mellow for them but brilliant none the less!

I love Birdman's music, and I've been familiar with 'em for over 20 years, but I gotta admit that I think most of their lyrics are just dumb. I mean, "Aloha Steve and Danno"? Great music though. There's literally HUNDREDS of great overlooked Australian punk bands from the late 70's/early 80's that many people here would probably love if they ever got the chance to hear them. Just to mention a few: the Scientists, the Leftovers, the Babeez, Thought Criminals, Psycho Surgeons, X (had the name at the same time as L.A.'s X), Razar, the Victims, Suicide Squad, the News, and Fun Things (who had a tune called "When The Birdmen Fly").

And don't forget the Saints.

I love Radio Birdman. The Under the Ashes double CD and the Buzzcocks boxed set are the reasons I finally broke down and got a CD player in college.

Holy shit, did these guys rock. Their one and only 4-song EP must be heard to be believed. Get it here. Trust me.

I am biased because I am friends with the guys who put them out but...

1) at the time they were the only in print and released in the US CDs of Birdman songs.
2) most of the covers are good, with one being great (Hellride doing Non Stop Girls) but most of them captured the magic of the songs.
3) most of the bands on the comps were there because they like Birdman, not because they were trying to be trendy or cool.
