They've been around forever...but they seem to keep blipping along as good as ever. I'll never tire of 'em. Haven't been able to find much here about 'em, though. Where are the serious SG fans of the groop?

I don't know if my admiration would have me on a list as a "serious" fan, but the stereolab/nurse with wound collaboration "crumb duck" is one of my favorite cds currently.

When Dots and Loops came out, I don't think it left the CD player for a few months.

I played it so many times when it came out and beyond, it hasn't left my BRAIN for a few years. I actually can't play it much anymore 'cause of that. I guess I killed my enthusiasm for it, but I still really admire it...I just have no desire to play it any longer. Anyone here have any records like that?

I love these guys, I got Emperor Tomato Ketchup on LP and listened to it all summer when it came out. It's one of those albums that makes you change the way you think about music. Or it made me anyway.

Ah yes... Stereolab. One of my favorites. The first album that hooked me was definitely Dots and Loops. Like everyone else, that album changed the way I perceived music. They are such a unique group and even after all these years, they continue to keep the good stuff coming. I picked up Sound-Dust over the summer and it is still in constant rotation in my cd player. I must have Emperor Tomato Ketchup... must get soon.

Marxist politics aside, they are a great band. I normally don't like droning music, but they can pull it off, beautiful vocals too.

A Stereolab beach towel??????!

Somehow I don't picture sun fun n' waves when I think of Stereolab...instead it's usually overcast, damp French evenings outside of cloistered smoky clubs with people in turtlenecks. It could just be me, though...

Sound-Dust is their newest record (came out last year). Pretty groovy as usual tho seemed a little more melancholy than lately--had some spooky sound effects too. Like a campy horror film in places, maybe. Overall very good. I think they're recording their next one right now. They're unstoppable!

Yeah, they're one of my all-time favorites. "Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements" has gotten me through some heavvvy road trips. I've been listening to them for years and still haven't heard a bunch of their stuff.

Anybody seen them live? I have not, but have heard mixed opinions.

ohh, i LOVE stereolab. emperor tomato ketchup got me hooked, and i've been a huge fan since...i saw them in seattle when they played with mouse on mars and both bands were brilliant. the only thing is, i hated the microbe hunters CD.

I've seen them 3x, the 1st a long time ago in a small club here in San Diego, then up in SF (with Mouse on Mars), and then in LA at the Palace...which was sold out, I believe. Each show was very good, some of the best I've seen, I would say, (but then I am biased)...I think Laetitia has a very compelling stage prescence, and their performances have always been really tight. Plus the luv they have for their fans and the luv and adoration the fans give back makes a very nice vibe overall at every performance I've seen. I would say don't miss 'em when you get the next chance...!

all,
i swear that this new, "cloudcover" guy from dallas is in no way affiliated with me, lowcloud. we are not in league to promote the band lowcloudcover, which by the way has a live webcast this wed. at 11pm on www.ksdtradio.org. yes we share a couple of favorite bands and our usernames resemble the band name, lowcloudcover. lowcloudcover is playing s.d.-- email lowcloud for info. and so what if lowcloudcover's guitarist/singer hails from texas-- this is not a ploy to promote lowcloudcover! long live stereolab.

saw them at Great American Music Hall a few years ago. I was suprised at how good they sounded, actually. I assumed they were more of a 'studio' band. Nope.

"peng!" is definitely one of my all time favorites. i've seen them play chicago a few times. always a great show. i've been happy with every album except "cobra and phases..." that album just never grabbed me like the rest do.

but oh yeah, "peng!" playing, snow outside, and some heavy petting. that's what it's all about.

Yes, I have heard a lot of mixed things about The Microbe Hunters. Sounds like a lot of people didn't like it. In fact, from what I have gathered, Stereolab didn't even like it too much. Has anyone seen them play at All Tommarow's Parties in the past?

I saw them in Minneapolis with Sonic Youth at an outdoor show. They were great, as was SY.
My only complaint was the blinding sun that was setting behind the stage that made it difficult to see them.

I have been listening to "Sound-Dust" more and more as I find it to be an incredible record. "Suggestion Diabolique" is such a killer track. It is menacing and at the middle break it kicks into a killer groove. And the tremelo on the guitars really comes out on this track. Everything combines very nicely on this record and it moves up my favorite album ranks day by day.

They're recording right now and I don't think they'll be touring until early next year...
