There needs to be a hall of fame: Moore, O'Conner, Apple, and this year's (other) winner, Lauryn Hill.

No No No! This was the perfect time. I personally long for the Fugee/Miseducation days, but she's sticking with this political thing. So why not call out the vatican for neglecting to adress the way they handled, and even covered up abuse cases. Shit, she was on the popes pulpit for Wycleffs sake! Good for her.

i don't care for people who use career opportunites for their own purposes. she had ulterior motives in choosing to be a part of this event. that's lame. i wonder how she would feel if her opening act on tour only took the gig to denounce the nation of islam.
plus if you are going to make such a big show out something you had damn well be prepared to do something positive to change it.

Hill told the crowd to seek blessings "from God not men" and said she did "not believe in representatives of God on earth."

She did do something positive! She let them know that what they did, and are doing in reguards to how they're handling the cases, and potential pedophile priests is wrong! Who fucking cares that she used her celebrity to bring that fact BACK to the spotlight. And I don't know if you saw her MTV Unplugged? Well it was'nt very POP friendly like her past releases. If she wanted to. She could shit out album after album of radio hits. She'd make even more money, the critics would gush over a radio friendly release from her. But she said a while back that she was devoting her life to her son, and other things? What things I don't know! I'm not a lauren devotee like this post might reflect, but why don't you really think of the severity of her rant(which I totally agree with). Then look into what she might really be doing. Not just what Yahoo fucking news says.

Did anyone else read the Rolling Stone article on her a few issues back? It was pretty in depth, and Pras helped a lot with it so it has some inside scoop. Of cource Wyclef was nowhere to be found.
Anyway, it seems like ms. Hill has been a bit off lately. Listen, she can devote as much time as she wants to her son(s) (i think she has three kids), and she can break up with whichever one of Marley's kids she was with. I just hate seeing wasted talent. And there is no denying that she wasted her talent and her potential. Unplugged was horrible, and from what I gathered from the RS article, the new album is due shortly (right after the Guns n' Roses album)!!!!!
According to the article again, she has some "spiritual leader" type fella who basically tells her what to do. Supposedly she often starts sentences with "brother so-and-so said...". That is not a good sign.
Anyway, I don't know where this rant is going. Just that she was amazing, and now she is in the "what a waste" section of my local record store.

Wow that's ballsy. She's mirrored my thoughts on the Catholic Church though. I think the Pope's a decent guy however even if the rest of the leadership cares more for the shepards than the flock--in particular, the innocent lambs.

I do think that it was a little bit tactless to go on that rant in the Vatican though. Christmas time is to celebrate the birth and Easter's for mourning the death. She pretty much severely abused the priveledge of performing there though she did tell them something they probably needed to hear. So i'm mixed about this.

Lauren Hill gets uberprops for tearing into one of the most oppressive, hypocritical and self-serving religious establishments on their own turf. It's not like she was talking shit from a distance, she came straight up in their house and told it like it is. I understand that some people may find this offensive, but I believe that Lauren doesn't have any vendetta against the Catholics as a group, but more likely just has beef with the powers that be, which have been historically corrupt up until modern times. It's hard not to disagree with a church who turns their heads while children are being molested across America by male religious leaders and at the same time can make such horrible and hurtful accuasations against the homosexual communities of the world. No one else is getting into their faces about it, so I say good for Lauren.
And also to follow up, I don't think it was bad timing at all. Jesus in his teachings never gave any authority to the Catholic church, or any church for that matter, to use his teachings to gain political power in the world as the Vatican has done. She said, "Seek your blessings from God not men." Which is true, because although I am not religious, I am well studied and know for a fact that you could only reach God through yourself, not through an establishment. Jesus was anti-establishment. And if he was around today, he'd be out protesting the war, and globalization and listening to the new Mars Volta.

How about get your own fucking forum?

I have no problem with the whole Sinead O'Connor/Pope thing. If thats what you wanna do with your spotlight so be it, but the fact is that regardless of what Hill feels about the catholic church, she was their guest. You don't show up somewhere to tell your host that they suck.
