My favorite psychadelic band is The 13th Floor Elevators considered by many to be the originators of the genre. A very raw sound and of course... trippy! Psychadelia was born in the 60's but is not restricted to that era, let's see your fav's.

Red Krayola, ? and the Mysterians, of course 13th Floor Elevators., the Yardbirds, The Stones "Their Satanic Majestys Request" album. Captain Beefheart and his fucking Magic Band, Love, Oh yeah, and Syd Barrett

As far as modern bands go: The Spacemen 3 are definately at the top of my list next to Spectrum and E.A.R. with The Warlocks coming in shortly behind.

Ash Ra Tempel, Gong, Can, Terry Riley, West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band.
Van Der Graaf Generator, Pretty Things(S.F. Sorrow), Chocolate Watchband. Cosmic Jokers are good.

I definitely agree with Spacemen 3, early Spiritualized, Blonde Redhead, Olivia Tremor Control, Warlocks...

queens of the stone age for new stuff, specifically "rated r"

other than that, the old usual 60s stuff: hendrix, the doors, the beatles' acid records, etc.

You're right, of course.. I was pretty tired when I was thinking of that.. draggin myself in from SG Vancouver and all.

I also have the comp Hava Narghile, which is turikish garage rock music.

Edited to say: the 13th Floor Elevators rock indeed.

Plus we've also forgot Donovan and the Zombies.

Yeah, that Hava Narghile comp is great. Y'all should also check out any of the Love, Peace, and Poetry comps (volumes include psychedelic music from Brazil, Japan, rest of Asia, Mexico, etc.).

Another great (and I mean great!) psych band is Trad Gras och Stenar (they used to be known as (International) Harvester and Parson Sound). All versions of the band are recommended. Fucking great psych/prog music from the late 60s/early 70s from Sweden.

I didn't say anything about "classic", just as long as it's trippysurreal smile
You've peaked my interest, never heard of them but I'll have to give 'em a spin.

lately i listen to dead meadow a lot. and blue cheer, too. and even though they sound a lot different, i think the flaming lips are psychedelic.

I definitely think the Flaming Lips are psychedelic in their own unique way.

My list, with a couple of representative tracks, consists of:

-Quicksilver Messenger Service (The Fool, Calvary)
-Jefferson Airplane (Fat Angel, Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil)
-Love (She Comes in Colors, 7 and 7 Is)
-Moody Blues (Legend of a Mind, the entire "To Our Childrens Childrens Children" album)
-Zombies (that whole fucking great "Odessey and Oracle" album)
-Jimi Hendrix (Burning of the Midnight Lamp, Bold as Love)
-Country Joe and the Fish (Section 43, Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine)
-Dr John (in his early days, I Walk on Gilded Splinters)
-Cream (Tales of Brave Ulysses, Deserted Cities of the Heart)
-Pink Floyd (the live Saucerful of Secrets from "Ummagumma," Echoes, Astronomy Domine)
-Soft Machine (entire "Third" album)
-Yardbirds (ahhh. where do I start. Happenings Ten Years Time Ago, Shapes of Things, Little Games, Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor..)
-Pretty Things (Defetcing Grey, Bracelets of Fingers)
-Vanilla Fudge (Ticket to Ride, You Keep Me Hanging On)
-Byrds (This Wheel's On Fire, Eight Miles High, all of "Notorious Byrd Brothers")
-Steve Miller Band (before they turned to 70's shit-peddlers. In My First Mind, Song For Our Ancestors, Space Cowboy)
-It's A Beautiful Day (White Bird, Time Is)

and, uhh, yeah, the Beatles. Tomorrow Never Knows.

I'm missing much more, I know.
