So i can't get that song from the Final Fantasy X2 commercial out of my head with those Japanime characters singing some Japanese pop song... I find their take on pop pretty fun and energetic and think it's pretty sweet in Animes that i've seen-- Macross Plus being the prime example.

So i'm wondering if anybody on here listens to it, knows about it, could recommend something and would know where to find it?

Fuck J-Pop... bring the Japanoise!

Actually our local college radio station has an entire J-Pop hour. It's sundays from 6 to 7 EST, and can be streamed from here if you're interested. You will certainly hear many, many Japanese Pop bands you've never heard of.

Two-Mix and Shonen Knife are awesome! I also recomend: The NON english, NON crappy Final Fantasy X2 "Real Emotion" song by Koda Kumi, GACKT, Luna Sea, Malice Mizer, Glay, Mad Soldiers, Iceman, anything by the Weiss seiyuus, Maya Sakamoto, eX Dream and most anime soundtrack music...now that I've established myself as a geek, I'll leave...and come back later to obsess some more...

Actually in Japan they call it "soda".

But anyways.. nobody's mentioned..

Yellow Magic Orchestra.

I mean come on people.. the second most important/influential early electronic group.. second only to Kraftwerk.

I think it's kinda funny how almost all modern Japanese music is classified as 'J-pop', whether it's techno, industrial, noise, rock, or punk.

Check out 'The Pillows' for some excellent J-Punk.

'DIE!! DIE!! COLOUR!!!' is a nifty J-noise group.

'X Japan' is THE J-Metal band.

Check out 'Hummingbird' for great J-rock.
